One of the most important ways we can contribute to DeviantArt is by suggesting Daily Deviations to the Gallery Directors.
Doing so helps make sure that important works get seen be more of the community, and makes the GDs' jobs easier. It also serves as a direct way to honor your favorite artworks, on a much bigger scale than a favourite or comment, with barely more work.
In the last year or so, I've come up with a process that really helps me manage my suggestions. I make a lot, and as a result I have the pride of seeing my suggestions honored pretty regularly. (Not everything will be accepted, of course, as each GD can feature at most one DD per day.) So far, I'm averaging one successful DD nomination per month, which is very rewarding!
I have created a Favourites Collection for potential nominees
[link] . When I am browsing the site-- my watchlist, features I read, journals, or anything else-- I drag my very favourite images into this collection. I think of this as a special category for the best of the best of the deviations that I see.
From there, it's a little more work-- which I why I have set things up this way. The favorites can stay right there until I have time to deal with them properly.
When I do have the time, the next step is to sort through them and narrow them down. I remove images that aren't quite as impressive as I first thought, or ones by artists with a recent DD, or pick the absolute best when I have a lot by the same artists.
When I'm ready to make the nominations, I just sort them by type. At this point, I have an eye to which GD I should be nominating each image to, and sort them accordingly. I can handle this by dragging images around in the collection.
Once I have all of the images (not too many!) for a particular GD, I send them a note, or a series of notes. (Sometimes I have to guess, as each GD has preferences. Always check their journal for comments about what they prefer.) Generally, it's important to include a thumbnail link. This can be done by copying the thumb code from an image, or using the "Share" link to create the note. I also always include some comments on why I am nominating each image.
Once an image has been nominated, it goes into a more permanent collection
[link] . I just add it to the one, and remove it from the other. Images that don't make it even though they are amazing, for instance because the artists has too many recent DDs, often end up in other collections instead.
From there, I just wait and see if my suggestions are picked up. If they are, there's another collection that I'm especially proud of

Now that you've sat through another of my wordy articles, I'm happy to reward you by showing my latest suggestions, all of them among my favorite artworks ever. Where else but DA could I see all of these beautiful works?
