As a photographer begins to look for his next subject, often times he goes straight for that which stands out in the world, that which captures our eye. It is in our nature to be attracted to the "shiny". Sweeping vistas, gloriously colored nature, a model in a studio. All of these things instantly capture our attention because we, as human beings, are designed to notice them. It's in our DNA.

One thing that has always captured my imagination, however, is when a photographer goes the extra mile to turn something completely bland and everyday into something fantastic and beautiful. This is not to diminish the work of those who capture the magnificent... That is a challenge in its own right. But, sometimes it's nice to cheer for the little guy. That thimble in your sewing kit... The spoon in your kitchen... They don't always get the recognition they deserve.

So here's to the little guys!
