Essentials for Photomanipulation

=StarBoyDeath:iconStarBoyDeath: reports, November 21
I’d really like to help my fellow artists in their growth in photomanipulation. I hope you enjoy and you understand some of the essentials for becoming the artist that you’ve always dreamed of being. In this article, I'll talk about developing ideas, finding stock images, throwing off limitations, being patient and giving all the effort you can give. There's a short feature as well. :salute:

The Best Free Fonts of 2009!!!

^Sander-Seto:iconSander-Seto: reports, November 17
''As this year comes to a close, we can look back and see that 2009 was a big year for typography. We saw more web designs with a focus on type, and there were some pretty amazing fonts released. Here are some of the best free fonts from this past year. A few of the fonts below were released at the end of 2008, but since they didn’t see much action until this year, I included them in the list.''

Go and check it out! I can guarantee it's worth your time ;)

October's Color is Turquoise

=Colliemom:iconColliemom: reports, October 2, 2008
Turquoise
by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, c1906

A baby went to heaven while it slept,
And waking missed its mother's arms and wept.
Those angel tear-drops falling earthward through
God's azure skies, into the turquoise grew.

  • These words are synonymous with turquoise or represent various shades of the color turquoise: Ultramarine, Blue-green, Alice blue, Aqua, Aquamarine, Baby blue, Bondi blue, Cerulean, Cyan, Electric blue, Pine green, Robin egg blue, Teal, Turquoise, and Viridian. The words "aqua" and "cyan" are used interchangeably in computer graphics, and especially web design, to refer to a subtractive primary color electric cyan.

  • Turquoise is perceived by most people as the coldest of all colors.

  • Turquoise represents love, healing, generosity, emotion, feeling , the unconscious , intuition, individual responsibility, creativity, communication, self reliance, and independence.

  • Turquoise is used in forming a connection for communication and general awareness and with dolphins, with angels and with elemental, other dimensional beings and for help journeying into other realms. A color that promotes higher emotional communication, self awareness and initiative.

  • Turquoise is one of the oldest protection amulets, and was also known as a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures.

  • Turquoise represents strength, protection from harm, psychic sensitivity and connection to the spirit world

  • If given turquoise by a loving friend, that stone would protect the wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune. The turquoise is the symbol of friendship. It also brings peace to the home.

  • Turquoise is a very personal and meaningful stone to one who wears it. Turquoise takes on the characteristics of the owner.

  • Turquoise is the symbol of youth, both the color and the gemstone. This color has a soothing affect. Turquoise is the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Turquoise has long been used in amulets to provide protection, health, confidence and strength.

  • Wearing Turquoise create feminine appeal with the lighter shades of turquoise. Some shades of turquoise have an old-fashioned 50s and 60s retro feel. Teal has a darker, somewhat more sophisticated look. Like the mineral, turquoise shades range from almost sky blue to deep greenish blues. Keep the soft, feminine qualities going by mixing turquoise with lavender and pale pinks. A bright turquoise and pink create a sparkly clean, retro look. Make it art deco by pairing turquoise with white and black. Turquoise with gray or silver as well as terra cotta and light browns have a Southwestern (U.S.) flavor. Turquoise with orange or yellow creates a fresh, sporty look.

  • The Persian scholar Al-Qazwini, for example, wrote: 'The hand that wears a turquoise and seals with it will never see poverty.' Turquoises were often worn on the turban, and often surrounded with pearls, in order to protect their wearer against the 'evil eye'.

  • In South, Central and North America, the turquoise has always occupied a very special position among gemstones. The Aztecs in Mexico, for example, used to decorate their ceremonial masks with this stone which was holy according to their beliefs. The Indians of North America, who still produce a good deal of traditional silver jewelery with turquoises today, believe that the sky-blue gemstone opens up a direct connection between the sky and the sea.

  • Aquamarine is a blue-green stone that comes from Colombia and Brazil. It has been called "Water of the Sea", because of its color. The aquamarine is the stone of sailors, believing it would be protection for them on water. Folklore says the aquamarine will protect against gossip. It is also said the aquamarine will pick up spirits.

  • Aquamarine's light blue arouses feelings of sympathy, trust, harmony and friendship. The blue of aquamarine is a divine, eternal color, because it is the color of the sky. However, aquamarine blue is also the color of water with its life-giving force. And aquamarine really does seem to have captured the lucid blue of the oceans. No wonder, when you consider that according to the saga it originated in the treasure chest of fabulous mermaids.
