Tell us a little bit about what you do.

Hello, lovelies.
Well, here at deviantArt I work as a volunteer as the Gallery Director for Digital Art > Photomanipulation. I have a real life job, but sometimes do cover art commission work. I dabble mainly with Photomanipulation. I reckon they fall under the genres of surreal, sci-fi, dark and macabre.

What got you started in Photomanipulation?

Traditional art is where I started and where come from, but as I got more into the galleries of deviantArt I discovered the art of photomanipulation. I was fascinated by the effects one can achieve by combining different photos and moulding them into your own image. It's like manufacturing your own alternative reality. I fell in love.



Do you have any links, or inspirations, you could share?

Many things inspire me. Film, music, life experiences. And of course other artists.

Do you take on Commissions?

Why, yes.



If you could point us in the direction of some great Photomanipulators here at dA, who would you suggest?

There are so many, I couldn't possibly name just a few. I adore the ones that step out of the usual form and challenges our perception of things.


What style of Manips would you say is probably the easiest to begin learning with?

The easiest to begin with is probably the cut'n paste method. Cut and paste a girl into a background. It might be a good exercise to learn how to best separate an object from an image, and perhaps also even to match an object to the rest of the background or surroundings, but in the long run it doesn't really do anything related to creativity. But for any beginner, I would start by looking at a variety of tutorials to learn how to master the basic stuff and all the different tools that is available in Photoshop. And also look at the Help section that is within the software itself (Adobe Photoshop) which is where I started to teach myself the ropes.

It's all about doing it yourself, going through the motions, trying out new tutorials, picking up tips and tricks. Don't ask anyone "teach me photoshop, pleeeeeaaaase"! You know that's not possible.

What's the funniest, or craziest, thing that's ever happened to you while creating?

Can't think of anything in particular. I'm in another zone when I'm at it. lol



How long have you been doing this?

I think I started in 2005/2006. That's when I got my first Photoshop.



Any important tips or tricks you could tell us about?

- Learn depth of perception and use the Blur tool accordingly.
- Adjustment layers: Use them as much as possible.
- Always match Hue/Saturation, Curves and Colour Balance.
- Sometimes a teeny tiny blur on your texture finish is key. Try it.
- A goody bag of goody goodness.

Not exactly tricks, but just a few basic tips.
