Welcome to *club-collab's first contribution to promoting those very important people who keep our clubs running!

You've heard about the people who run deviantART, but what about all those hard-working deviants who dedicate themselves to running the clubs you watch? It's quite a feat to keep up with the duties of a club, especially since these guys usually stay behind the scenes and get no recognition for their contributions.

So please enjoy some excerpts from the lives and galleries of 20 of the awesome club mods and admins around DA. Let's give them some applause and some well-earned recognition!






*Wimley is an admin for both , a photography club dedicated to sunsets and sunrises, and , a photography club dedicated to images of nature.

How much of your free time goes into your clubs?
As much as needed, can't put a number on it. I have a great helper *undyingangel now, so it's less than before, but still hours a week.

Are you a club founder?
The clubs were not founded by me, but I saw my friend =Photo-Witch having to deal with these two big growing clubs (2.500+ members each!) alone, so offered her to help.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
Since I was active on dA I joined some clubs, and was happy to help some out after a while...

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
I'm not that active anymore in the other clubs, since running these two already takes enough of my time. Besides dA clubs, I created and am running an own portfolio site image-belle.com Check it out!! Everyone welcome!

What's your passion as an artist?
Music came in the first place, photography comes second. Since I was a kid, always been fascinated by nature, photography, literature,... Honest art, expressing feelings, no matter how.

What's your day job?
Web developer & full-time teddybear hippie-punk

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
Nope, I'm a 42-year old skinny teddybear hippie-punk, looks already terrible enough to scare people the hell out, without any further dressing needed

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
Clouds..on clouds..on clouds..
Because it has three layers of clouds, but still the sun was there... and great morning colours. Proud too because I took this earlier than I'm normally awake



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
That it works without too many bugs from launch, so we don't lose our previous work. Saw a preview, looks promising though... What I want most is a system where it's kinda collecting, without upload/submit, but still in the gallery, so watchers/members are noticed with their watchlist as before.

How much of your free time goes into your club?
Around an hour each day 6 days a week.

What brought you to create your club?
I made a tutorial about constructive criticism and after a few users asked me to make a club I did.

What's your passion as an artist?
I just love to draw. Create character, outfits and worlds people may find interesting.

Grocery store Clerk and freelance Graphic designer.

Yes, either as a cat girl (paws included) or as Flonne from the Disgaea series. (angel trainee costume)

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
because I had a lot of fun making it and trying new things and hoping it looks nice in the end.

I hope it'll make things a little easier for everyone.

on dA I'm also active in the *Black-White-Club and the *film-photography. I also ADORE *RoninsUltramix although I don't have a character to participate with (yet).

What's your passion as an artist?
capturing lovely things to share with others and expressing my point of view. Hopefully I can make someone smile!

What's your day job?
I'm a full time student in the medical technician program, but I have a part time job as the tech support help desk and building websites for instructors.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?

I like this picture because (1) the negatives were exposed BADLY on one side from when I was loading it into the developing tank and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to print anything! I'm really really pleased that it actually came out. (2) I love pulp fiction! (3) I'm vainvainvaaaaain :3

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
It's extremely time consuming, as a member, to go to the club's deviation and then go to the original deviation to read comments/fave. I know it seems like just one more click, but it's time consuming to do when you have 100s of devs to look at (I subscribe a lot, heh) and it take a while to load all the pictures.

I'd also like it if there was a drop box separate from the notes mailbox. or if you could create multiple drop boxes and each would have a theme. It would make sorting the inbox easier!

How much of your free time goes into your club?
At the very least, I put an hour into the *hiredeviantARTISTS club every day. At most- especially when coding or making the club better- several hours every day

Are you a club founder? If so, what brought you to create your club?
No, but I took over the club shortly after the founder created it. I took over because I'd never run a club before...and because it was sort of handed to me I've worked very hard to make it what it's become.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
(both as a member and as a mod)
As a member of clubs, at least since 2005. I've only been a mod for a few months. I can now understand why some clubs go belly-up after only a few months Stress! Running a club is a lot more hard work than people think! And of course there is drama. After all, we're all artists here and our egos are bigger than our heads

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
...I kind of lurk about watching other clubs, but I wish I had more time to participate! ~ThatTime is a fanart club which makes me laugh, and *watercolorists is a club full of very talented people, and I adore seeing their submitted artwork. It's really a pleasure. I spend most of my free time on dA.

What's your passion as an artist?
I am absolutely in love with animation I have only recently gotten into more-detailed animating and hope to learn flash soon. I'm a filmmaker and I very much like to entertain I also love fanart My passion for fanart burns with the heat of a thousand suns

What's your day job?
I am a producer/co-creator for a TV show we're premiering on KDOC (Californian television station) this month called Unsigned Rock TV®. I edit footage and music videos and do animation for the show, and I'm head of the Art Department. I also director and shoot. I wear a lot of hats, which, as a producer, you sometimes tend to do As for myself, I also sell custom stickers, temporary tattoos, and novelty IDs

As what are you dressing up for Halloween?
A playboy bunny! Either that, or I'm cosplaying yet again. Gotta love harry potter I'd also like to go as a special-Ops S.T.A.R.S. person (from the Resident Evil franchise ). I adore Halloween! I only wish there were more nights of dressing up!

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
I don't think I've ever had a personal favorite Perhaps or

I'm a very eclectic person so I tend to do a lot of different things and in different styles or manner. I adore fanart and animating, so that might have something to do with it I also love to work with bright color!

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I'm hoping that more people will realize that there is a huge resource for them as both a buyer and a seller of commissions in the *hiredeviantARTISTS club. While providing a directory of commissionable artists who do different things, we also have a wealth of information to help inform/educate commissioners on things they might need to know, stuff to watch out for or be wary of, and the basics of going about commissions. And we're constantly growing and improving! We accept everyone, regardless of skill level or style! Our artist-profile system is like having a table full of colorful resume's with basic-to-intense information and provided links to the artist's commission journals and further samples of their work. At this moment we have over 125 profiles to choose from, and even more people watching to see what we have to offer!

How much of your free time goes into your club?
It depends on how much stuff has to be updated, but it's usually updated daily/every two days.

What brought you to create your club?
Yes, I am the founder of =CallMeOriginal
I'm a member of some other Clubs over dA, and the most of them are about a specific category, and since I profoundly love the original and innovative photographs, I decided I wanted a place where to collect, and learn from, originality, no matter the category, only the mind and the ideas.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
As a founder, we're pretty new, we've been on the road for roughly 3 months, but I've been a part of clubs for many months.

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
In dA:

Outside dA I'm a ghost in RedBubble, I have a Flickr Account, my own website on Uber (smyle.uber.com) and I'm on OneExposure.

What's your passion as an artist?
The photography. Besides the music, because I'm a musician.
I'm always behind the emotion, the metaphor, that I like to say

What's your day job?
I'm a Journalism student, singer and composer, and a writer.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
I love dressing up but I'm still not sure. However, if I finally get a costume, probably it won't have anything to do with Halloween... I'm that cool.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
Pft, that is difficult to choose, especially me that I'm very variated...
But let's say 'Let's welcome the summer' [link] is one of them, I guess it's because I developed the concept, had to search for the good light, the focus... And people really liked it, which fills me of joy.
Besides that, I'd say 'Balls Time' [link] or 'The story of my life' [link] , both very special for me.



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I hope it can please us, it's not difficult to please us, though, we just ask for the needed (and awaited!) functions.






*Kel-----Bel founded , a photography club with weekly assignments and contests.

How much of your free time goes into your club(s)?
I devote about an hour [or less] a day for submissions, new members, contest updates. Big overalls, new additions to the club: about five hours.

What brought you to create your club?
Yep! I wanted a club where other photographers could come and learn more about photography, test out new techniques, and meet other with similar interest. I wanted a club that would keep members on their toes so-to-speak.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
Me: since 2005. Photo Assignment: 2008

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
I'm a big fan of *Ex-po-zure and JPG magazine.

What's your passion as an artist?
Photography. I live and breath it and never shut up about it.

What's your day job?
I'm a freelance photojournalist. Where there is no work, I contribute to the rising unemployment rate.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
I'm making a little bo-peep costume for a party. NOT little hoe-peep.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
It was the first image that I took that was published in a newspaper. It also was the first time I took a successful picture with Nikon's D1.

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I'm hoping for new members!






=Ilharess founded , a club for mushrooms and fungi, and administrates , a themed club for pagan art. She also owns ~Ilharess-stock, ~Putopisi (for journey photos), and ~Riznica (for animals, plants and other non-human life).

How much of your free time goes into your clubs?
Hard to say, I used to be an admin of two more clubs and when I was submitting stuff to the galleries it was very long process, and in big clubs there had to be some restrictions as you can't have too many admins coz it makes mess and on the other hand you can't submit all the stuff people send to you. If you have only 100 members and each submits one deviation per month it is a lot to do, and some people would submit all their work to the club. So I re-organized some clubs, in others I gave my place to others to see what they can do

What brought you to create your clubs?
At that time, I was an admin at ~Nature-Club and as I am biologist, I did notice there was no specialized club for fungi while there are many for other nature segments. As my job I work in nature protection, and am in charge of lichens and macrofungi. I tried to find a club on dA about it but I found only one that was inactive for a long time. Tried to contact the admins, but I got no answer. Then I created a poll at Nature club to see if people were interested and here came the ~fungi-club Small one, we don't even have a proper category but use old fashioned plants definition, but it's nice.

This is not the only club I created - when I came around dA, I also created national ~HRclub with my friend who was also on dA and we had a similar situation, there was already a Croatian club, but inactive and no answer from admins. I'm not an admin there anymore, nor is my friend, but club is still running

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
Pretty much since I joined dA, it will be 3 years now. Started joining, then finding out how clubs worked and starting two of my own clubs and being admin on two more.

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
On my main account =Ilharess you have a long list of clubs I participate in. As I said, I founded this club and co-founded ~HRclub and am and admin to this and ~pagantribalart club now. I'm listed as an admin at ~Nature-Club as new admins insisted, but I don't have enough time to do it anymore.

What's your passion as an artist?
My first love is photography, of anything I can find inspiration in. I also like to draw/paint, and write occasionally, but am not good in any of those, maybe a bit better in photography

What's your day job?
I work for the State Institute for Nature Protection, have a masters degree in biology-exology and will probably do a Ph.D. too. There are two other things I'm educated in but am not a professional - photography which I study through NYIP and spirituality. Wanted to be a photographer, but at that time it was expensive "sport" and I did not dare tell my parents I wished to go to such school instead of studying science. I love Nature, and am fortunate that my job includes lots of field work, where I enjoy Nature and have photo opportunities.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
Nope, it's a rather new thing in this area, here dressing up is for carnival. On the other hand, I'm Pagan, so Samhain is a holiday of another kind for me I don't actually like to pretend to be something else for no reason, but I liked to do live RPGs - I played a dark elf. Occasionally my friends would make me go out be it on carnival when we were kids (I was a princess and won first prize when I was 8, and Pili Long Stockins another time), or Halloween few fears ago, where I just wore my roleplaying costume

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
Hmm... none of them would be in my gallery if they were not my favourite for some reason. It was difficult when I had to choose 3, and now just 1 I feel is impossible. Instead, you may choose your favourite, and I might tell you the story why it would be my fav

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
Since I started being and admin, I've been bugging dA people to do stg about the clubs. There should be a simple system where I could add a photo to the gallery virtually, while it was still in original place so comments and favs go there and at the same time watchers of the club to get notification there is a new deviation in the club gallery. With the collection system, it is easier to collect the works instead of re-submitting them (which takes up disk space too, and makes it unprofitable for dA) and it is good to support the members this way but others do not see new submissions so I still have to make a review from time to time, and include the links, and hope people wil take a peek. I wish there was a system that was quick for the admins and best fo the promotion of the members, and additionally saving up the disk space for dA.

How much of your free time goes into your club?
I've just started recently, so I can't really judge it yet. but I think it is definitely a LOT of work.

What brought you to create your club?
I came across an old club which had the same topic but was inactive for a long time. So I wanted to give all the old members a chance to revive.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
Since 6 months approximately.

What's your passion as an artist?
My passion is to create cute pictures. I love to edit faces on every possible stuff

This was the first picture I ever really edited by myself and was taking it as an art picture. And I think it deserves more attention






~barka22 founded , a themed club for windows of all kinds.

How much of your free time goes into your club?
not so much, it should be more than 5-10 minutes per week

What brought you to create your club?
~Bullwise and me wanted to create a club where windows are posted. The idea came after a trip near Budapest, where I took two great(from my perspective) pictures with windows. So we created the club, but since then Bullwise (co-founder) is the one who occupies more with it, so he is the admin, and I'm the mod. In the beginning we asked many people who have already taken pictures with windows to post their pictures in the club, but since then, fortunately many people sent us their work, without asking them.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
since 2007, August

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
usually in HDR, nature and macro clubs. Fortunately me and my friends represent a great community in photography.

What's your passion as an artist?
I want to find my style, but it is quite difficult. In addition, you must take into account some basic (objective) requirements when you take a photo. I'd like to capture as much EMOTION as it is possible, but sometimes I have only a snapshot about an object.

What's your day job?
I go to University, I'm a 3rd year student, but everything what bulids near this kind of 'occupation'; friends, music, sports...

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
I think not, here in Romania it is not a habit. But I'll watch the movie Saw as usual

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
I have a lot! [joking)]
My fave is the Flowing coastline, it's so nostalgic for me, it remembers me on the school-life I had before the university. But I have no real favorite.

I'm not a founder, I was just there when the idea came out of ~barka22's mind, offering him my help. Then I turned out to be administrator.

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
Disabling the possibility of faving a picture submitted by a club. Making possible faving just the original author. It's quite embarrassing when you have to tell all the time that it was faved wrongly.

How much of your free time goes into your club?
Way too much of my free time is spent making sure everything's running smoothly, but I love doing it so I don't mind at all

Are you a club founder? If so, what brought you to create your club?
Being a member of a lot of clubs myself, I wanted to create one that not only provided that much needed exposure, but that also challenged each and every one of its members and helped them to learn new skills in order to improve - and this is where *Colour-Me-Happy was born

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
About a month after I joined the dA community I believe, I just loved the idea of showing people what I was capable of and both giving and receiving feedback to help me improve my technique.

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
I'm a member of around 10 clubs myself, I also help *Ultra-Violet-X to moderate a club called :devwildlifephotclub: however it's going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment *eek*

What's your passion as an artist?
Being a photographer is a part of who I am, I see the world shining around me and I can't help but shoot it to lock away and keep safe. I hate that the world is falling into disaster, that we have war and conflict and that there are people who have absolutely nothing - that's why you'll see that the majority of my shots reflect bright, colourful and expressive subjects - I see pure undiluted beauty and I photograph it so that I can look at it when I'm feeling crappy and know that something somewhere is still beautiful

What's your day job?
I just left my job in an art shop to go off to uni on the other side of the country so I'm currently jobless...unless you count being a full time student one - okay let's face it, all I do is lounge around eating tesco 7p noodles and drinking heavily. I love my job!

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
The old reliable Pirate, but a proper pirate costume as opposed to those ones you buy in packs from party shops... I have beads in my hair and a light up sword and everything

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
I love Taking Flight, it was my first successful attempt at macro nature photography! i love the detail and the bright, warm colours in the foreground and the general 'antenna level' angle of the camera



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
There's a new club system?!... why have I not heard about this?

How much of your free time goes into your club?
1-3 hrs I am busy with my life >.<

What brought you to create your club?
How we started: This girl wanted to run a nature club, so she made this club.

So, one day, I was looking for a nature club to join, because I love nature so much , so I found *SkyAndNatureClub and I joined it. Then I noticed that it had only two members when it's several months old! So, I talked to the girl and asked her about what's going on, so she said that she didn't know what to do, and how to get members, and etc..

Then goes my smile and I said "How about I help you with running the club, I can try to get you members " She was more than happy, and she gave me the pass. I haven't run a club before, so I had to look at other clubs and I started to learn what to do

After days and weeks of working, I was able to get us many members.. So I continued the hard work, and several months later, *SkyAndNatureClub started to be liked by others

I didnt stop, and I kept advertising, and getting more members, I then started the first contest after I got a subby, and other things happened too and now am so happy of the development in this club

So, I tell you that it wasn't easy at all to start a club ! Because that time not many were interested about clubs..

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
since 26 - 11 - 2006 btw our second anniversary is around one month from now

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
I also run *emirates and join many other clubs ^^

What's your passion as an artist?
I am in love with nature, and looking at wonderful pictures in dA increases my eager to produce more art. I think my goal here is to get as much people as I can to know and like my gallery

What's your day job?
am a university student, year 1

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
nah, we don't celebrate that here

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
There are many deviations that I like, but it doesn't seem like others like it.. but this is one of my faves It took me long to adjust the lighting, to focus, and to choose a background.. but thank god, I was able to produce a lovely picture

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
Now that we are submitting through collections, it doesn't make a big deal, so club system is not very important, unless it is going to be useful in some way.

But this club system will enable us to "disable favorites" so that others do not fave photos that are actually our members'

Landscape photography. Pics with a social message.

Nah, Romania is not that crazy about Halloween .

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
I think 'innocence' [link] . we've all been children. And in any adult there's a child who survived. At least in theory.



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I hope we won't have to deal with the faving thingie and submitting should be done easier






~marshmellowbrains moderates , a themed club for stamps.

How much of your free time goes into your club(s)?
2-3 hours a day.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
I've been clubbing, as you call it, since about March of this year. And helped as a mod for ~stamps-club shortly thereafter in April.

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
*ArtistsHospital, *KittyCatCult, and *Cat-Lovers-Anon.

What's your passion as an artist?
I believe my passion lies in the whole of art. I'm better at some things in art than at others, but I appreciate all forms of it just the same.

What's your day job?
I don't have a job, but outside of dA I do homework and draw!

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
I'm getting a little old for that, haha. Although, technically, I may dress up for an anime convention that is held over Halloween! ;D

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
I love Zodiac - Rooster. Mostly because it's my newest drawing, and I haven't had time to notice all my mistakes. But the lineart has also been my favourite for months.



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
Well, I haven't heard too much about this yet. But I guess I'm really hoping that it won't allow users to fave in the club, which will greatly reduce the time necessary to notify people of their accidental faves of the club.

How much of your free time goes into your clubs?
Most of my time goes to the clubs, I dedicate like 3 hours per day.

What brought you to create your clubs?
I'm the founder of 2 clubs: *PhotomanipulatorClub and ~HorrorWriters

*PhotomanipulatorClub: I'm a member of a lot of clubs about photomanipulation, but I figured out that they rejected works from some beginners, just because of the quality.
I started the club with the idea of give a chance to the beginners to expose they're works and get feedback from advanced deviants. It's pretty good, because I can see how beginners grow up.

As always, the club is open for members

~HorrorWriters: I created this club with the idea of promote writers on DA. But, this time, the literature focus in the horror and macabre category. I think the club is pretty original and special.

And, of course, the club is open for members.

What's your passion as an artist?
My passion... is the need of express my feelings and be heard by the others. That makes me search for a lot of styles that help me to conect with people. Also, I play the piano

What's your day job?
I study in high school. And play the piano in my free time, listen to music and watch movies.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
Umm... My friends and I will have so much fun dressing up with a gothic style LOL.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?


Because it reflects the dark art and the emotions too. Which is exactly what I want in my deviations.

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?

Maybe... disable s from deviations, so the people won't make me use the thumbs system again and will the original work (It's every club's hope )

How much of your free time goes into your club?
When my computer is actually working, then usually a good handful of hours every day. When it isn't (which is a lot of the time ) then it depends entirely on other people's willingness to lend me their laptops

Are you a club founder? If so, what brought you to create your club?
I love anything to do with the sky, and I had looked around dA for any really active clubs dedicated just to clouds. I couldn't find any really active ones, so I decided just to start one of my own. My reasons were personal as well as wanting to share the loveliness of clouds

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
About a year and a half. I only started the *CloudsClub in May, so every day of working on the club is a chance to learn something new about modding for me

What other clubs/communities do you participate in?
I'm a fan of the Siamese Fighting Fish
Not only am I a fan of the sky, I adore any sort of flight. Birds top my list of obsessions
I'm a fishkeeper, and hope to get into breeding fish once I have the space

What's your passion as an artist?
Writing. I'm not great at visual art; I don't have that much patience usually. I've loved writing since I was young.

What's your day job?
I'm a sitter Housesitting, animal-sitting, and babysitting. I'm not able to work conventional jobs, so I have to make do with very little for now

Are you dressing up for Halloween?
Hallowe'en is my favourite day! I've always wanted to dress up as Samurai Lincoln (Abe Lincoln with a katana....that's it ), but I don't know if I'll be able to splash out for a suit this year.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
My Petition Against Betta Cruelty article. I originally released it as a journal entry, but added it as a deviation to make it easier to link to. I'm planning on writing on Goldfish care, now that I actually own two



What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I really don't know. I haven't thought much about it. I've wondered since I first heard about it whether it would apply for existing clubs, or just for ones created after the system had been put into place. If it did apply to existing clubs as well, then my biggest hope would be that it would somehow increase my member's exposure. Submitting photos to the club gallery would be the perfect way to do so, if it were quicker and if people couldn't add the photos to their favourites, needing to go to the original instead. I sincerely just want the best for my members, so that's my biggest hope for the new system.

How much of your free time goes into your clubs?
It depends on the week. Sometimes hours a day, every day, and sometimes only once or twice a week. This week, it's been about four hours a day.

What brought you to create your club?
I love silhouettes. They're one of the most important parts of an image, to me -- to have a good silhouette -- and I didn't see another club for it, so I just had to make one.

How long have you been clubbing on DA?
Almost a year now.

What's your passion as an artist?
Painting. Specifically, digital painting. Also, animation, concept art and character design.

What's your day job?
I work a a 911 fire/rescue dispatcher and emergency call taker. I'm also a full-time student, in my senior year of my BFA in media arts and animation.

What's your favorite deviation from your own gallery?
Probably .. It's so rare that the perfect colors come so quickly for me. Also, I'm in love with Cham.

What's one thing you're hoping DA's new club system will do for your club?
I hope there can be a better way to get our clubs' members some exposure. I'm very aware of how depleted their exposure has become since we moved to collections-only, which is part of the reason I've started *club-collab -- I want to make it up to them, in a way that doesn't resort to the old system of doing things.
