UPDATES FOR The Great Sailor Moon Redesign Contest

We all know Sailor Moon- wither as a passing fancy from your childhood, waking up at 6am every Saturday to watch it, or it's your current obsession. We've seen her drawn and redrawn throughout the ages, cosplayers (both women AND men) dress like her, doodle her on little scraps of paper, and make fun of the famous catch phrase, "In the Name of the Moon, I will punish you!". Most of even know the words to her classic theme song "Fighting evil by Moonlight!" She's a part of our culture. Now it's time to see her reborn in your own words.

Woo! This has been outrageously successful! We have gotten so many beautiful submissions, it’s hard to keep up with them all! Luckily we have been able to get 5 of the most skilled Sailor Moon Fans to help in judging. Introducing our noble judges:

Second big Update: One of our members here on the DA was so interested in this contest, she has agreed to make A SECOND COSTUME to go along with the winner! If the winning piece does not have a supplementary design and the artist will not produce one, then it is up to her discretion to choose a costume of her liking to create. Please everyone thank the awesome for her generous gift submission!

Now that you know our judges, one very smart thing to do would be to look through their galleries- see what they like and what interests them. I have heard some of our judges say they have yet to find many submissions that really grasp their attention or seems to follow the idea/rules outlined. In case you need further clarification, please redesign a Sailor Moon character- please don’t LIMIT your ideas to things that only exist in the Sailor Moon world (ie, power ups, adjusted universe, extended ribbons, ect). Bring in all kinds of influences to change the style- put a twist on the original uniform and see all the designs you can come up with. (As a side note, please remember all the senshi- they *all* need a little love-love XD) That being said, all the submissions so far are applicable and lovely. Just keep in mind those two goals- be creative and be true to the spirit of Sailor Moon.

We are still looking for a finalized list of request artists willing to make simple prizes for the winners. We have a few lined up but we are still looking for less- reluctant assistance. Please send a note or write a comment below if you would like to help in this way.

Update on the rules: no changes but more clarification is needed.
--Yes, you may use any media. (Including photography)
--Yes, you may use ANY senshi.
--Yes, you may submit more than one piece.
--Yes, you may submit more than one of the same senshi.
--Yes, you may submit artwork that you have already submitted on the DA.
--Yes, you may participate if you enter a prize or are a judge.
--No, impossible costumes do not make your submission any less applicable.
--No, you and your friends dressed as the senshi does not qualify as a ‘redesign’

Last, but not least, if this wasn’t made clear enough the first time around, please please please PLEASE- don’t worry about how good an artist you are or how much you know about Sailor Moon!!! The contest is about the idea in your head- not necessarily how pretty you can make it. Never be afraid to try- you have nothing to lose! Exercise that brain and proudly show your creative skills. Pick a topic and put it into sailor moon world.
