You may have read about something called the Great Firewall of China. It's the Internet censorship and surveillance system run by the Chinese government used to keep the populace from reading bad things that may lead them to have evil thoughts about topics such as freedom and democracy. Also note that the technology was supplied by western corporations in freedom loving democratic countries. Other western corporations such as Yahoo and Google have supplied the Chinese government with information that led to the arrest and imprisonment of Chinese dissidents that sought the aforementioned bad things.
Australia is about to implement a similar scheme. All Internet traffic will be routed through a system that will grade the content that Australians will be allowed to view. It's being done in the name of protecting children so who will argue with that?
The original proposals were to have an opt-in scheme for the filtered feed - possibly useful for parents and schools - and a standard un-filtered feed for grown ups that can make their own choices without the intervention of the busybodies in the government. That has since changed.

So, gentle reader, how does this affect deviantART and me? Given the mature and explicit content on DA it's likely to go onto the blocklist and that will mean no more DA for me and all the others that live here. Sheesh, even Saudi Arabia doesn't go this far.
