"You Must Be The Change You Wish To See In The World."
- Mahatma Gandhi"
I am here today to challenge people to make a difference on deviantART. We as deviants are capable of changing how people feel about deviantART, this is our community and it is our responsibility to shape it into a place we can take pride in. The communities we choose to be involved in are an extension of ourselves, and the ways we choose to behave influence the form of the site here. If we act with in a supportive, appreciative, caring manner that is the atmosphere that this environment will have.
We are capable of supporting under-appreciated artists and their art, and using our personal networks of fans to spread the enjoyment of that artwork all around dA. So my challenge is a simple one, there will be no prizes for taking part as I was going offer prizes but thought lets do it for the sheer enjoyment of doing right, we should do this sort of thing because we care about building a better environment not because of rewards. So I want everyone who reads this to write a journal featuring,
A relatively unkown deviant.
Ten pieces of relatively unknown work.
Help out a deviant in someway. (i.e. gift a sub, buy a print, leave helpful feedback)
I know many of the people who watch me do features anyway. I am posting this in hopes of getting others involved, I will be watching for involvement and will then ask people to join me in a permanent campaign to make a change.
It's important also to say something about what a feature really should be imo, and what it should not be. It should be a way to honor work you choose to honor and to endorse this work to your fans and other people as being something they should pay attention to. That goal, is badly undermined by features completely stuffed to the gills with thumbs. I saw a feature the other day with over 450 thumbs, is that an effective way to honor or promote those artists? Or would 25 thumbs, 10 thumbs, 5, be better? Bigger is not always better, and I am not trying to be negative to people who are only trying to spread the love and feature a lot of thumbs because of that, but I just don't think it works out best to sink a featured work in a sea of thumbs. Maybe you should Collect hundreds of thumbs so people can come browse that, but feature from that very selectively. However you do it, it's up to you, but I hope people think about why it is they are doing a feature and how they can design their format to meet their goals.

Devious Comments
I think it's very important for us to do our part here on dA.
And I think it's a better idea for us to do it because it's right!
I'll definitely be doing this.
