The Campaign

ANIMALS MATTER is a campaign run by The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

The campaign is to highlight a petition in support of the Universal Declaration of Animal Welfare.




Universal Declaration of Animal Welfare

Currently, there is no international agreement concerning the care of animals.

WSPA proposes that the UN adopts an international agreement on animal welfare.

A Universal Declaration accepted by the UN would:

Recognize animals as sentient beings, capable of suffering and experiencing pain

Recognize that animal welfare is an issue of importance as a part of the social development of nations

Act as a catalyst for better animal welfare provisions worldwide

The Universation Declaration of Human Rights was adopted and proclaimed on December 10, 1948.




The Petition

They are seeking 10 million signatures to show the governments and the UN how many people care about animal welfare. This petition will give us and the animals that matter to us a global voice.

Reaching the goal of 10 million signatures worldwide will raise public and government awareness about animals and the importance of considering their welfare.
