The contest fan fiction writers have been waiting for!

Through the duration of being a Gallery Moderator for the Fan Art department, I've tried to include fan fiction into most contests where I could, but ultimately have never created a contest specifically for fan fiction itself.

That all changes right now. Yes, I know your woes, writers, and I'm here to fix it all with the Epic Fanfiction Contest of 2008. It won't be easy, oh no. It won't be easy at all, but I have faith in you all as writers, and I foresee you attempting this challenge of potential doom and disaster. So what do you say, fan writers? Are you in?

50,000 Words

I'm sure most of you all have heard of NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. The Literature department is encouraging their members to participate in this challenge of writing 50,000 words (a novel) in only ONE month.

Your challenge, my fan friends, is to write a Fan Novel of 50,000 words! 50,000 glorious words to create an epic fan novel based on the fandom of your choice! Before you decide that this is too great a challenge for you, you do not have to finish! The point is to give it a try and see how far you can get!

The Rules

- You must start on November 1st, no sooner!
- You must start a brand new fan fiction piece, no continuations of leftovers!
- You must respect the visions of the original copyright holders by being true to the nature of their characters.
- No erotic anything and please adhere to the dA policies.
- You must try your best! You may not reach 50k, but thats okay! I want to see everything!
- No crossovers, one fandom only, but you can create your OWN characters!

Submitting Your Fan Novel

- Please submit your complete/incomplete pieces to: The category for your contest is contests & projects -> contests -> 2008 -> Fanfiction epic contest

- List your word count, fandom, fandom type (ie. book/comic/movie, and a brief synopsis in the artist comments!

I'd love to see the works in progress, so feel free to start uploading your unfinished pieces as soon as you want and just edit them throughout the month! I think part of the fun is seeing the creative process and how you'll change things!

PRIZES AND GLORY

I am so excited for this contest, and I hope everyone who writes will participate. This contest is about effort and potential, not so much about winning, but what you can achieve.

EVERY person who writes 50,000 words or more will receive a 1-month subscription. *

There will be prizes based on best novels, and they may or may not be awarded to people with 50,000 words. I will be reading each novel myself and having a handful of people to help me narrow them down. *

1st Prize is $50 deviantDOLLARS
2nd Prize is $30 deviantDOLLARS
3rd Prize is $20 deviantDOLLARS

Everyone who participates will be featured in a news article and will receive a stamp to display for participating. People who finished 50,000 words will receive a special stamp for participating.
