The Forum Newsletter Awards GALA!

It's finally here, the largely anticipated FORUM NEWSLETTER AWARDS GALA Nomination Session! Those of you who have been sending your nominations in already should be happy.

Named by the internet dictionary's definition of "gala": A gay festivity, the Forum Newsletter Awards Gala is to be an annual award gala, with winners chosen by the forumers, in which we vote for the best of the best of the past year!

The first step, what YOU must do now, is nominate people: At the end of the newsletter you'll see your VOTING BALLOT, just copy and paste that into a note and fill in the blanks with the usernames of those you feel most suiting for the award. You may nominate up to five users per section.

You have until November 30th to nominate users. After that, the most nominated users for each category will be posted in the December edition of the newsletter, which is when you get your NOMINATING BALLOT and get to pick one out of five hopefuls for each category to be the winner.

Prizes will of course be around! Donations of subscriptions would be handy . It won't be revealed the exact prizes for each category until they've been won, but subscriptions and such will be rampant.

Keep in mind, `conorschild did a similar award ceremony when he did the newsletters. Last years winners are NOT eligible for the same categories, ex: `Prince-Charles, I love you, but you just can't win Forumer of the Year AGAIN! Also, you can only win in one category. Can't have 'em all taken by `Vlei.

Now, onto each award category and their requirements for nominations. Do note that if you nominate someone not meeting the qualifications, they will not be condsidered.

The creator of the Forum Newsletter, himself, was just the man to tell us about recent drama leading up to and after the ban of !nihilSS, ex-resident Nazi of the forums:

For a long time, nothing happened in the Complaints Forum. Threads were posted, spelling was admonished and people posted little pictures that represented six-letter words. It was a time of peace and tranquility, although ultimately boredom.

SO HELLS YEAH THE DRAMA LLAMA JUST STROLLED RIGHT BACK IN TOWN.

!nihilSS wasn't nothing new. If you couldn't get your head around that sentence, then you might wanna skip the rest of this section because it doesn't get much easier to comprehend. Regardless, she was a 17 year old Nazi, clearly the least likely person to ever get involved in immature internet drama. Testimonials from people who seemed determined to cheerfully ignore the fact that she, y'know, supported the massacre of millions of people because they weren't Aryan (it's not that people who don't look like me are worth less as people, but who the hell is going to make my breakfast?) called her a 'nice girl.' She had a range of interests--from making art about the Nazis, to posting threads about the Nazis, to listening to music that supported the Nazis. From this screencap we can examine her hobbies and internet habits, like being amazed that paying £4 wasn't solid protection against being banned.

Also Gaia: [link] AND [link] . Because presumably you need like two accounts to suitably be a Nazi? Also you have to post lots of stuff in German because English just isn't Nazi enough?

Anyway, let's hope that most of you don't need any lessons on why her beliefs are just that little bit retarded and move back to the screenshot. For those of you who have never been banned or suspended, the blue box is standard. You'll get a little message in there stating the reason for the ban--mine was, "innappropiate sexual discussion,"--and usually a link if needed.

Yeah, !nihilSS didn't really get that. They just got "I warned you to back off and stop the drama." That strikes a lot of people, me included, as odd.

At this point, watch this video of a guy getting hit in the nuts. It'll prepare you for confusing explanation headed your way.

To begin with, it has nothing to do with the avatars, and really let's not get into that because OH GOD is it irrelevant.

No, for all those out of the loop, NihilSS had a problem with a certain admin (it was $Stykera ) and claimed that she had personal issues against her believing in racial superiority over anyone who wasn't from Atlantis. Now I'm sure all of you realise that I'm not a person to fall back on conjecture and hearsay and allow my prejudices to show, no sir! So I guess I'll just have to let the facts speak for themselves.

I stopped collecing links when I ended my run of the newsletter, but the first major cause for concern was when $Stykera locked this thread, on Austria seemingly because it mentioned Hitler at some point. We could find out more but all of !nihilSS's comments have been hidden, just in case we turn into Nazis too. Thanks dA!

Anyway, !nihilSS was a bit put out by this so made another thread, "This website is conspiring against me." Hahaha, don't be sill--oh it got locked. For promoting eugenics? This is where I guess some of us have to think why did you hide all the comments, dA, because I sure didn't remember seeing that the first time round. And right-wing white supremacists aren't known for their subtlety in writing. But hey, it got locked! Life goes on, right?

!nihilSS didn't think so. After finding out her inquiry to the help desk was dealt with by--you guessed it--$Stykera, she sent a series of notes to $chix0r.

Now, the notes can be found here [link] and yeah, it's a pretty bias view, obviously. It also saves me a lot of time having to write this shit and seeing as most of all have made up your minds about the drama it doesn't really matter! To sum up though, the "warning" in !nihilSS's reason was the notes, and the last straw was the thread complaining about $Stykera

Which had been locked. That's what the note was about. The locking of the thread. So she was warned about not making any more drama and banned for previous behaviour?

The end of it is that we're never going to know. Something doesn't add up here, and as much as you're all going to love making out the admins as some high-up corrupt monsters of the internet, I find it hard to believe any of them really gave that much of a shit about !nihilSS. If it was solely about Nazism, then why pick on her specifically? The forums are a small part of dA--I wouldn't say even a quarter of the traffic ends up there--so don't pretend that it's because this was an issue that was deeply worrying them. And $Stykera and $chix0r aren't the heads of the site or something, and they do happen to actually be somewhat competent, in that $chix0r can spot if a thread is locked or not.

Somewhere along the way, something has gone missing here; whether it be logic or just an important puzzle piece. dA keeps all this private, so all we've got to go on is !nihilSS's testimony.

So what can we do?

Well hey, says =PaulStrealer, LET'S SET UP A NEW FORUM! I know what'll SCARE THE MODS! GET A BUNCH OF MAINLY UNSUBSCRIBED FORUMERS TO LEAVE. Man I can almost hear the very foundations of this site crumbling around us as we parade out of the door. Anyway, check out the new forum and the people on there, then check back here in a month to see how many of them have "left." Or see how the quality of posting has improved!

The Music forum's regulars finally snapped over so many MCR praising threads, and decided to take Deviants over. Oh, if only they had known that indeed, MCR fans lurk there too, they're just not as open about it!

This petty attempt at a take over simply resulted in a lot of flaming and good ol' Paddy the Red Padlock doing his job.

Of -Philias

Any good forumer saw the epic long thread by =lordogreus, [link] , admitting that he is in fact a pedophile. It hit over a rather epic 2000 posts before being locked for touchy topics, but ended with a surprising ammount of supportive replies.

That being said, this WAS in Complaints.
No one should be surprised that there would be c-c-counter threads!

The LOVE Crusade of the ANGRY Man

On the 19th of this past October, *ReallyAngry could be seen throughout the forums extremely actively, though he wasn't shouting just anything. This time, his comments all had to do about yours truly - :devbobobella: if you've already forgotten - and a secret love they share. Likewas were posts by =bohobella.

It has been clarified by one Mr. Captain Obvious that they are now an item.

The ANGRY Crusade of the ANGRY Man

*ReallyAngry kicked off his fourth anger crusade on the 26th of this month, with big success. Over 6000 comments were posted using the anger mood option, beating the "Wow!" mood option to the ground.

!DisabledLamb was told that her ban was for trolling. However, she wasn't a troll of our community, but a good forumer to have around. With a little digging, the best bet we have is that !DisabledLamb's so-called 'trolling' would be the Ban Teruchan Petition seen here: [link]

!unsuccessfultrollplz is assumed to have been banned for ban evasion, as his signature states. According to it, !unsuccessfultrollplz was previously !troll2, !DDDDman, !kickmeplz and !Dman0017. Someone was a tattle tale. He will be missed, for as far as unsuccessful trolls go, he wasn't so bad to have around.

!dumpmuffins didn't write explicit threads, but had a nack for flaming a lot of users. That rate of trolling is asking for the hammer, and !dumpmuffins received it.

A result of the recent !nihilSS drama, !KingCobra00 was banned for telling ~OuroborosCobra and :devSANE-INTOLERANCE: to kill themselves in two seperate comments. It should be made clear that the ban was not a result of these two being butthurt, but just a result of staff doing their jobs when they come across rude comments such as these: [link]

!Broken-Demoness recently stirred up drama with a lot of talk of her own death coming soon and such. It is still unclear what of the story was true, though many users have pointed out multiple flaws to her claims. It is believed that !Broken-Demoness was in the end reported and banned for ban evasion.

A sad one to see go, !rasput was banned for linking to porn in Deviants, likely asking for a ban. He will be missed. The best clue that we have is seen here: [link] in this comment, where !rasput told ~SANE-INTOLERANT that he wouldn't be around to see the next forum newsletter.

!KingCobra00 was banned over !nihilSS related drama, and with good reason - He was spotted, in not one but two comments, telling two deviantART users to "go kill themselves" in relation to their stand point on the !nihilSS drama.

Proclaimed as "our wonderful nazi" by some, and not QUITE as nicely put by others, the point really is, a large figure of the forums was banned. While we've heard MANY sides, many pointless opinions and useless facts amongst a few gems, the best way to treat the situation is with what $chix0r has told us:

"!nihilSS did not deserve a ban for having the symbol of the Nazi party in her icon. That is not the reason why !nihilSS received a ban, and in accordance with our privacy policy, that reason is not available for you guys to debate. I am however going to give a very public warning that if this ridiculous and quite frankly, ignorant "campaign" continues any longer, that there will be some other people joining the elusive ! party. Stop dArama mongering, quit stirring up issues because you assume it's all about a 50x50 avatar containing ah oh em gee, nazi symbol!!! the shame. Don't you guys have anything better to do with your time? There's plenty of art to go comment on."

Forum Feature

*Thebuild!

*Thebuild may be our resident bunny, but he's more than just fluffy. Deviants local and avid coffee lover, *Thebuild is also an amazing artist. You'll be shocked to see how tiny his art, sculptures, are. And no, no bunny fur in them (not in the publish photos, at least).

The forums are often looked down at, other users assuming not many forumers have great artistic ability. That certainly isn't the case for *Thebuild, as we can plainly see.

Memes

Monocles are still trendy in Complaints. As of lately, the new meme trying to be pushed is flipping one's avatar upside-down. Many are against it, but slolwy - just like any avatar trend goes - the numbers are rising.

People continue to rebel against the NO ALL CAPS IN TITLES rule that was set down in Complaints, but it's futile. Red padlocks aren't fond of negotiating, nor do protests work well with it.

Most notably, in a matter of days, !nihilSS' avatar (pre-ban, of course) became a trend - The speechbubble/! avatar was everywhere and growing larger by the day. Of course, this added to a lot of drama circulating Nihil and now those who shared similar avatars. Many changed avatars around the climax of drama, and as it started to die down.

Interview!

bohobella's interview with ~Agent-Sarah

~Agent-Sarah and I set up a picnic blanket by devART headquarters. I'd been waiting over two months to interview her, and it was finally time. What better way to conduct an interview than while ants steal food you've placed on a nice blanket?

"So Sarah, if that is your real name, how long have you been around for?"

"Since 2003," She began, "I was a forum newbie and I got the nasty end in the Complaints - hell, every new comer does. After lurking about, I learn how to do it right and earn everyone's respect."

She's been around since 2003? I made a note of telling $chix0r she was only five years old. Good typer, for a five year old. "How did these Forum Clubs come to be?"

Everyone knows about them, and if you don't, lurk moar. God damn it, they're all listed in this newsletter.

"*SwordOfScotland made the Politics club in 2007 and made the Complaints club on the same year." She began to eat a sandwich before the ants did.

"What's your involvement with them?"

"I'm the chief Stenographer after ~Kasenji stepped down due to a busy life as a theater actor. I used to note him the quotes but now I'm following his steps to make people laugh."

Trust me, interviews are hard when users have confusing names. Don't even ask how much practice it took for me to memorize "mngamojemo".

"What're the benefits of forumers watching the club accounts?" I asked her, knowing fully well I already watched them all.

"As a community, we want people to make our clubs grow with the stuff we love to do. I'm trying to think of ways of doing some stuff for the Complaints club to draw more people in."

"Got a personal favorite forum?"

"That's a tough question," Sarah paused, "But I really go for Complaints since most of the great moments come from that forum."

"Have you seen a particularly lulzy quote of all times for the Complaints club?" I asked. Personally, I've seen a good share of lulz with this newsletter myself.

"So many good quotes from the entries I made, it's so hard to choose...but I'll go with ~sbkMulletMan's epic laugh out loud quotes, namely this: Speed 3: The Slowening! I mean, seriously, what can be more tense and suspenseful than an old lady with a Walker fleeing inch by inch away from an out-of-control street sweeper? For TWO Hours!"

She really can't stick with simple things, I should have learned eight newsletters ago to stop note-taking on napkins.

"How's about a best in Politics?"

"'Spam is not a right, or a privilege. It's a pox on the intertubes' by `zeruch, our official badass forum goer." Oh wow, he's official!

I didn't pack enough napkins. If there is any reason I am a failure at life, it is for lack of napkin preparation skills. I had to distract her, so I grabbed my bowl of potato salad.

"Potato Salad: Yay or Nay?"

"Nay, I don't like Potatoes unless they're made into French fries." Sarah smiled.

Well, there you go. In conclusion, ~Agent-Sarah hates potato people.
