Hmmmm...
So I see, some folks has started to trace then?
Since dA has started a new rule of allowing tracing then I will bring some examples to make sure IF TRACING WAS REALLY ALLOWED.
Hm,sorry guys...Maybe it'll sound weird and unprofessional but this is my first article...
---Why do you trace?
Tracing for some peoples are considered as FUN,TOLERATED,NORMAL.
But I am AGAINST it.Of course tracing can be fun,but WHY,just WHY do you upload it in dA?
Think about it,dA is an ART website, not some TRACING website.
..........
You don't believe me?
You LOVE traces?
Then let's compare these situations:
..........
-When you trace someone's artwork without their permission or not,it is considered as fraud.
You don't believe it?Then read the below:
If as well you considered trace as legal then what if...
-When you copy someone's homework without their permission or not,it is considered as fraud.
Then you'll say to the teacher:
-Teacher!BUT MY FRIEND ALLOWED ME TO COPY IT!
Same thing as:
-But the original artist lend me permission to do it!
***That is,indeed RARE.But it is still NOT allowed, imaged a teacher that'll allow you to copy homeworks.I'll ROFL off my chair.***
In the most usual and casual cases situations would go smoothly like this:
You:
-But I didn't check his paper at all!
You(alternative):
-But I didn't trace his drawing at all!
Of course the teacher won't accept it,as well as some artists that won't accept your traces as legal stuffs...
Those kinds of teachings applies to a lot of things, included stealing,fraud,copying...tracing is like a part of those...
You don't believe it?
.................
Then...What if someone steal your idea for making a SUPERB photo manipulation?
It doesn't need to be the exactly same thing, but the person could use the same idea, same model, same bg,SIMILAR/RESEMBLANCES in the concept and the final product.
................
It doesn't have to be a homework necessary,it can be an idea,drawing,photography,blueprints,toys...ANYTHING is possible for theft,EVEN art works waiting to be traced.
................
You don't see where this is going, don't you?
Let me say it clearly:
Tracing is,like copying answers based on someone else's paper while working in a an essay or in an exam without the tutor/teacher sees.
Of course, most of the time, the original artist/student wouldn't know it...Only after a long period of time we'll notice that someone stealed/copied the art/work.
But rarely do I see someone confessing their mistakes.
...............
I have read in a book that SOMEONE pretended the HE made the phone before Graham Bell.It is another kind of STEALING/COPYING/FRAUD.
Steals exists in all forms, even the smartest person can't avoid it.
----------------------
I am expected to receive some flamings/rejects but oh well,I'd like peoples to think more about it.Since when did TRACE became a form of art?I do not remember that.
----------------------
I hope that most of you would understand and make up your mind to this...
Is tracing really a good thing?
It's more like stealing some candy bars at a convenient store.

Devious Comments
It explained me quite well how often copying and tracing can be
Though...You have to make it less confusing...
Next time...
It's a lovely article, though.
I liked your point about handing in plagiarized homework versus posting a plagiarized deviation.

I'm Skyfire in the G1 Crew on DA
If you can read this, I somehow got out of the straightjacket!
If someone claims to trace the pose of other artworks/photos/stock images then it would be no different than copying the entire plot of someone else's story and using it as your own, just changing the names and throwing your characters in there!
