Introduction:
I conducted an experiment that's conducted as scientifically as possible, for the sake of dA signatures everywhere.

I'm sure most of you have seen the arbitrary signatures in which it states "98% of x likes/is a y, if you are one of the 2% that does not like/is not y, post this in your signature!" My intention for this experiment is to investigate the statistical accuracy of this claim. Common replacements for y are "yaoi," "prep," "rap," or "smoke weed."



Operational Definitions:

"dA user" - a person who posts art or uses the journal. People who have a collection of favorites or a club account will not be counted in the statistic.

"Yaoi Support" - A stamp signifying a user's like of yaoi, shounen-ai, BL, slash, m/m pairings, gay pride; art of this nature; or a journal on the front of stating their like of this.

"Prep" - A stamp stating the user is one or pictures of the user in appropriate clothing of a prep. Journal proof.

"Moved onto Rap" - A stamp stating a user is fond of or participates in composing rap music, art denoting a fondness for rap, journal stating fondness of this genre of music. This is negated if the user has a clear show of rock and roll liking as well, as the phrase is usually "has moved onto rap."

"Smokes/Has Tried Weed" - User has a stamp, journal, or art that signifies marijuana use.


Methods:
This experiment is conducted with the use of the random deviant feature available through use of the random button. 100 user accounts will be viewed and recorded.


Results:

Yaoi - 7 of 100
Prep - 0 of 100
Rap - 1 of 100
Smoke Weed - 0 of 100

Discussion and Conclusion:

All of the statistics posted in journals have been disproved. Closest to the statement of "98% of dA users are yaoi fans" is closest with 7 of 100 liking yaoi with the terms set above. This is accurately "7% of dA users like yaoi," much different from "98%." Less than one percent of the users are preps or admit to marijuana use, and one percent have moved onto rap.

A possible flaw to this design that I have taken into consideration is the favorites section, which was excluded. Favorites were not calculated with the total, as they are too cumbersome to navigated and the dA user could potentially be favoriting out of composition of the work, not the subject matter.
