Many "popular" artists who sell on DA have become lacking in proper selling etiquette. This article is an overview of what buyers should watch out for and what sellers so improve on as far as quality, productivity, communication, ordering, and shipping is concerned.

♥||\/||♥ FEATURED DEVIANTS ♥||\/||♥ -->

♥||\/||♥ NOW INTERVIEWING ~shadowduchess ♥||\/||♥ ---->

Now for the Artisan Crafts, I give you this lovely deviant. Her works are enough to sate any kind of thirst. ;) Stunning, & gorgeous, let's see what she has to say.........

Tell us a little bit about what you do for a living/hobbies.

Well, I design and recreate costumes for people and have been sewing and designing since I was very young. I was always inspired by historical movies, fantasy movies, images and books so I took a little from all and started drawing and when I was old enough started sewing, painting and later on leather crafting.

What got you started in your specialty works?

I always felt a need to express myself through art and not through traditional painting or drawing and I always had a love of fashion. I'd make clothing for dolls, then people, paint on clothing jackets or jeans and try to make interesting items out of scrap leather when I had the opportunity though I tell you all of took a lot of trial and error.

Do you have any links, or inspirations, you could share?

My inspiration was mainly through movies, and images and the links would probably take up a whole page. I would say Edith Head was one of my main design inspirations, as well as Christian LaCroix, Yves St Laurent, Issey Miyake, Jean Paul Gaultier, Charles Worth, Vivienne Westwood, and so many more wonderful designers as well as movies with a historical look. Fine leather detail has always caught my eye as well as clothing details. I think it's the fine stuff that always inspires me the most and wondering how it was done and what inspired them to do it.

Sword And Stone --> [link]
Wolfgaard Armoury --> [link]

What all areas are you capable of?

Clothing and fashion design, leather working, metal working (chain), painting, sculpting.

Do you accept Custom requests, and do you take on Commissions?

Yes.

In your opinion, what's the funniest "term used", as far as terminology goes, in your artwork?

Off the top of my head I can't remember any amusing ones but, of course I'd probably remember something outrageous when I'm sleeping and it'll wake me up. :)

What's the funniest, or craziest, thing that's ever happened to you while creating?

Does gluing stuff to yourself count? I've painted, dyed, glued, pinned and done any number of things to myself while working. I've also been covered in glitter by accident before and looked like a fairy mishap.

How long have you been doing this?

It really depends on what I'm working on, how much I have to draft out, and working out the fine details. If I'm leather crafting the etching depends on how detailed it is and what other patterns are involved, dyeing and painting and for fashion it fluctuates constantly since I work on so many things.

Fashion? Before I was a teenager and I'm well, let's say it's definitely well over 20 years now. ;) Leather crafting since I'd say my late teens early twenties, but I have taken time off every once in a while as it can be overwhelming.

Anything else you'd like to share about your artwork?

Well, I mentioned a bunch of designers before and there are many more that motivate and inspire me, painters such as Dali and all around artists like DaVinci really inspire me. Movies are an inspiration and there are some amazing artists here on Deviantart like ~millytilly, *jollyjack, ~LordIronwulf, *mahirates, ~LordMishkin, =2dazed and so many more that I watch. I admire all artists for following their hearts and dreams and doing what they love to do, for their dedication, talent and for sharing their lovely and inspiring works and hopefully inspire new generations to come. There's nothing worse than someone telling an aspiring artist that art is nonsense and is pointless. I've had that told to me once in my life and as you can see, I didn't listen.

If anyone wants to learn more about these things I say read, take courses and experiment but don't let anyone take your creativity from you since it's yours and yours alone. I find that some that teach will try to tell you that it can only be done their way and I find that can be confining since some of the best things have been created out of mistakes. So, just keep learning, and trying new things.

My best solution is to grab books, tutorials, take classes and ask your favorite artist if they are available if they have anything to share with you. For leatherworking, my best advice is to take scraps and experiment with shapes, and images. And painting and for fashion, if you are just learning there are a ton of books out there to learn about pattern making so you learn the basic body shapes to make some great stuff. Learn about different fabric types and how they work best with certain things, draping, shaping and fit and understand how your machine works in regards to little things like needles, thread and more.

Best of luck to all aspiring artists out there and thank you to all who have gone before and are causing inspiration to us now.
