It has come to my attention that I may have discovered another source of art theft, but I'm going to need to enlist the help of others to figure out just how far this rabbit hole goes.
The source in question is a game called Elven Blood. It's one of a series of four games, the others being Blood Lust, Skies of Blood, and City of Blood. The series has several thousand players on Facebook AND now on Myspace.
I've played most of the game assuming that they'd acquired permission for the usage of the images there, until midway through I started noticing that only some images had credits listed under them. I've located and contacted two DA members now who lacked credits and found out that permission wasn't even asked of either. The percentage of images I've seen that are credited are about 5% (I'm nearly at the end of the game).
So now I'm on a quest to find out who else wasn't asked and who was, but may have declined a listed credit.
I'm gradually collecting screen shots from the game to allow as many people to view the sections as possible in hopes to finish this mess up quickly and get everyone their credit. If you're an online art junkie, know your artists and have a moment to spare, please go to my journal, read the details, then go to the screen shot link under the links section. Browse the shots and see if you recognize anyone's work.
Were this an individual doing this, I wouldn't be as concerned, but this is the work of an independent game developer with four online games possibly using the work of our peers without even a nod to them for their efforts.
I'm also seeking the aid of others to head the investigation of the other three games in the series. Please note me if you'd like to help so I can link your efforts and keep everyone involved, informed.

I have been debating on just outright reporting them to Facebook as they've clearly broken the rule about copyrights 6 times now and who knows how many unconfirmed thefts. Still haven't gotten around to looking at some other details in FB's ToS.
I would have done that if I were you, but maybe it's too early.
BTW, I also play the Legends of Norrath online card game associated with the EverQuest series, and I wouldn't be surprised if anything was nabbed from there. I'll try my best to keep you updated if by chance I do spot something!

It's possible. The blatant stuff from Forgotten Realms though....Yeesh. That's a big company to be messing with.
I'm also trying to get my WoW-playing friends to see if they snipped something from Blizzard as well as SOE and other huge companies. That's like invoking the wrath of... something.

Also mentioned the whole thing with how they're using Forgotten Realms stuff in the game without acknowledging its origins. I'll see what they say about that too.
Tell me what they say!

I hope that somehow all of the artowrks can be indentified and reported; it'll be a huge task, and most likely take months, but it will be worth it for the sake of the artists and to show these websites that they can't just take what they want without asking.

In times of darkness, humour shall light the way!
They sent me a link redirecting me back to the developers, which of course isn't going to helps since they are the source of the problem and FB is hosting the problem. I don't see this as much different from the early days of Napster where the company itself was not the problem, but its users. When their message settles, I will write them back on more details, because that's basically what it sounds like they're allowing to happen but because there's not some massive company behind the artists being victimized, I don't think they're as worried about the problem and don't see it as theirs to deal with.
