Its been pretty obvious lately that Ive had a healthy obsession with Steampunk and all things related. I am notably fixated on the Victorian era, a quick look at my screen name and signature will tell you that much. I am also a fan of the Industrial Revolution (hurray progress) as well as Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. To me, all of these things equal up to Steampunk and so it seems valid for me to try and work within that genre.
So, Im going to have a modest audition. Here are the regulations:
1. I wrote a little Steampunk short, located here >
[link] , and if you are interested I would like to see your treatment of it.
2. Your interpretation in any medium, (aside from literature, thank you) be it traditional comic panels, photography, digital art, animation or film (if you managed to crank out either of these by the deadline, my head would explode), or anything you can think of as long as it tells the story Ive laid out.
3. Please keep it Steampunk. Thats the point, after all.
4. Collaboration within Collaboration? The more the merrier!
5. You dont have to complete the whole story, but it will certainly win you an advantage.
6. A reference sheet for the main character is provided here >
[link] However, your imagination will have to suffice for the other five characters.
7. To enter:
I) Please post your work in your gallery (obviously) with a link back to the original short story in the artist comments.
II) Please send a note to me with a link or thumbnail of your work. Feel free to write a little something to me about your process if youd like, however, it is not necessary.
III) Please exert some patience.
Oh yes, there will be prizes.
A- I will feature the winning submission in my journal for at least a month, but probably much longer because I am lazy and rarely change things in my journal.
B- The winner will receive a yearlong subscription to DA.
C- An item of winners choice from their wish-list.
One last thing: Depending on the strength of the entry and my desire to continue a new storyline, there may be a regular PAYING gig in this for you. This is entirely dependent on how often I write new material for the story and on how much youre expecting and/or willing to be paid. In other words: Im not promising anything spectacular and it would be non-contractual, but I would be happy to pay you for your work.

As the Darkness falls around you, and as it seems as if you are to be swallowed whole, fear not, for the light is on its way.

When one has dealings with scholars and artists it is easy to miscalculate in opposite directions: behind a remarkable artist one not infrequently finds a mediocre man, and behind a mediocre artist often a very remarkable man.
