People do not realize that there is a deeper creative side to creating fanart. Whether it be changing a character's appearence to look more realistic or vice versa, much planning and care is need to create the perfect composition in the final. People also don't realize fan art can provide as a learning resource for artists. I for one do fan art and my own original creations, yet, I found by doing fanart I have improved in my art skills to make my original art better. Another thing, fanart lets you be creative and can lead to a new personal style or learn a new technique to use in your own personal images.
