Giving to those who are truly in need

=ImaRawkStar:iconImaRawkStar: reports, December 23
This is the time of year of which we all get tangled up in our own troubles and do not focus on some of the real issues of the world. Well, heifer.org can help us with this, by giving animals to families who are truly in need of food, shelter and security.

By donating a small sum of money, such as ten to twenty dollars, you could provide a family with an animal such as a cow, which could produce milk for the family, for food and cooking. With the extra milk it produces, the family can go to the local market and sell the milk to gain more money, which could go towards food and shelter. Over time, the family will start to gain an income and will be able to earn an education.

With the education, they can receive a steady job and produce a stable income for the family to survive. Just by donating a small sum of money, you could not change one life, but many around them. But this is not just it, the family MUST produce offspring to give to another family, which will do the same thing as the family before. Over time, the community will grow and sooner or later, the impoverished areas will start to gain strength.

Even if you can not donate any money, please donate a few seconds or minutes by adding a favorite to this article and sending it on to other deviants around deviantart. It would be really awesome if we could get some support on this, and maybe as an art community we can pull together to help others in need! I know it can be done!

Rape is not just a crime, it is a heinous and personal invasion on the most intimate of levels. Rape destroys lives and belittles its victims. End the silence, conquer fear, and speak up. We need to raise awareness and help prevent this inhumane crime.

Kids Taking Over deviantArt?

~Mukuhawk:iconMukuhawk: reports, November 15, 2008
First of all, I'm NOT discriminating an age group, I'm merely pointing out an ongoing phenomenon. So I am going to discuss the pros and cons of kids joining deviantArt, in point form.

Pros:

1. If this site is helping kids with their sense of community and cooperation, then it might be helpful with their art skills. After all, deviantArt is a community, right?

2. Kids are not afraid to stand up for themselves and speak out. They promote change, sometimes they can come up with creative ideas.

Cons:

1. This site can become a platform of cyber-bullying. I've seen kids write hate journals and draw hate art. If bullying happens in real life, it can happen on the Internet too.

2. The mature content on deviantArt should not be availible to kids in the first place. If their parents saw it, they may be offened.

3. Some kids don't really know what art is about. Instead, all they want is popularity. Surely being popular is good, but that doesn't give hem the right to put down other kids that are "not-so-popular".

4. The perspective of kids is sometimes one-sided. That's exactly why dArama is so "appealing" to them.

5. Kids make "friends" easily, and the same goes with "enemies".

6. deviantArt is not kids friendly. When deviantArt is founded, it is not meant to be a place where kids can play on the Internet.

7. Last but not least, deviantArt is commercialized. Kids don't have the money, and since money gives them additional privileges (subscription etc.), they sometimes think that money brings them popularity.

That's all I have to say. Feel free to comment or discuss.

Well I agree with the Pros and the cons.
But I'm 16, not 18 yet.
I do speak my mind on subjects, however not very many people like that.

But some of the younger people who come of here only to cause trouble, steal art, and create Hate art should be allowed on deviantart.

"But some of the younger people who come of here only to cause trouble, steal art, and create Hate art should be allowed on deviantart." Didn't you mean shouldn't ?
And I personally don't mind at the age group, They are some that do causes trouble but it's not (personally) going to cause some big damage :)

I agree with both the pros and cons and notice that there are more cons. Kids on DA bring new fresh ideas and wonderful art, but they also bring their love and hate for certain people. I don't mind people older than me, nor do i mind ppl younger than me.

I meant Shouldn't, Sorry, I must've typed too fast ^^;

Well I guess that's true, it depends more on the person rather than their age

I think the main thing is maturity, not age. After all, I'm 15. I take art and the site seriously, but I still joke around with people. I know some people who are under the age limit, but treat the site just as they should.

The thing that really irritates me is when people come along and treat it like a simple social networking site or a site like Photobucket. The worst breed of user here are the kind striving for popularity and nothing else, often creating great dAramas and stealing art, etc.
However, I've known people of an age that really should know better who to do this (over 25, even) so to tack an age range like that isn't quite right.

Also, your point about mature content. There are filters in place to stop those who should not or do not want to see mature content. This works perfectly fine for people who themselves do not want to see., but while some are easily clicked away by people who do want to see but should, the irremovable 18+ barrier is in place for anything particularly offensive.

However, its very true that there's a lot of users who are simply not in the right state of mind while facing the site, and most of those points are sadly true.

Oh, and another pro: Their viewpoint of your art can be more refreshing than an older member. Their attitudes can brighten a potentially dull site into an interesting place. =P

Thank you for your comment. I understand it fully. It's hard to speak the truth when everyone else around you is ignoring it, even the truth is always right in front of them.
:iconlechemiste:
Sometimes its easier to extinguish the light you have than to fight the darkness all around you.
Maybe that's a bit of a strong way of putting it, though.
