deviantART's Community Relations Team provides a unique collective effort that seeks to create and sustain collaborative relationships among deviants and to develop innovative opportunities within the global art industry. These relationships are meant to provide and encourage opportunities to foster creative genius. The CR Team acts as a window of information for the community on how to utilize deviantART in a way that will empower and enable themselves as respected and successful artists.
Our ultimate vision is a community of artists that come together unified and strengthened by sharing the belief that they hold the artistic power to create and shape their own success. In order to realize our vision, our mission must be to exceed the expectations of our community, whom we view as partners, and we will accomplish this by committing to our shared core values. Our core values are listed in

this journal3. Why do some moderators have different Daily Deviation selection criteria to others? Why are there no universal rules?
There are basic guidelines for daily deviations that apply to all people with the privilege to select them and they are:

Avoid giving daily deviations to an artist who has had one in the last 3 months. Constant featuring of the same artists tends to lead to negative commentary from the community and we are sure you do not intend to lynch the artist you like!

Daily deviations are all over the place in v6 because of our new awesome footer and with that comes a lot of criticism from the community. Quality over quantity is sure to go over well

We all have friends on the site and value their opinions. However, if the community feels all of your picks come from the same people, they can feel ignored. Expand your horizons and try taking suggestions from all sorts of people, you may even make a new friend in the process!

We all have our strengths, so stick to what you know! If you are a digital art junkie that should be what you are featuring. Do not venture into areas you are not familiar with

Dont offer daily deviations as contest prizes they are features that are not winnable

The community appreciates reading the description on daily deviations to get an idea as to why youve selected it. Taking the extra time is always worth it
That's it. Aside from these general guidelines I've put out, individuals may have their own additional guidelines they've listed in their journals. Some may use their privilege to showcase unknown artists and therefore may not want to feature already popular people. Some may want to pick the best of the best regardless of stats and some may just go with the flow of what appeals to them.
The point is that daily deviations are very much a personal choice and I've selected the people who have this privilege because I trust their opinions and value their eye and I regard them as community leaders. While it's easy to say "THE UNIVERSAL RULE OF DD's IS" I think that creates far too much structure for something so artistic and personal. Besides, I find it's a little like telling someone they have to like the color yellow. Eventually their lack of passion is going to come through and then what's the point? I would rather deal with a little controversy from people in the community because the people I've selected are passionate about what they choose and why they choose it, then deal with an array of cookie cutter mediocrity. Besides I think it's honest on the part of the DD selectors to post for you the criteria they select by. I could ask them all to remove that and choose based on just the above guidelines but again, I'd be limiting their creativity and I simply refuse to do that. I also personally don't agree with a some of what people are telling me a daily deviation should be. I've heard comments that popular people should never get them and certainly not staff. While I appreciate the concept of shining a light on an unknown talent, I also believe in reveling in the talent of the known. Artists are artists and popularity doesn't come into play when I select daily deviations. Personally, I follow the above guidelines and the extra factor is how it affects me personally and I don't know how one can quantify that. Allowing the selectors a bit of freedom here is what will elevate the quality of our daily deviations and bring the passion back and that my friends, is why there is no universal rule.
4. Why is an image I posted ages ago being moved to another location now?
There was a hold on moving reported misplaced deviations for many months and as such there is a backlog that is now being worked through. No one is being targeted we're just trying to catch up

5. Why am I not consulted before my image is moved to another gallery?
This is pretty simple really, there are millions of images to a handful of us. It's simply not possible for this to be done. We treat artwork and artists with the utmost respect and do everything in our power to relocate misplaced deviations to the correct gallery. There is a learning curve here, we have new people doing new things and mistakes happen because we're human. Please let us know if you disagree with a move by contacting
Help Desk however, do so with some respect we don't need our heads chopped off or to be called idiots. We're human too and we know how alarming a moved deviation can be, it's happened to some of us (to me about 5 times). We want to open communication as much as possible but we need to treat each other with respect on both sides of the fence

Soon a project will begin to provide easily accessible definitions for each gallery to try and cut down on the amount of misplaced deviations. Together we can clean up the galleries, we just have to work together

6. Why are there still references to Artist Relations and Gallery Directors?
Unfortunately, you can change a name in one day but it takes a while to update everything else

These changes are in the works and you'll see them come through as they are completed.
7. I won a contest run or sponsored by Community Relations but have yet to receive my prize, how do I get it?
I have a list of things still owed that I will begin paying out on December 1, 2008. If you aren't sure if you are on this list and still don't have your prize, please email moonbeam13@deviantart.com and I'll verify or add you.
8. What happened to Stock and Resources?
Resources and Stock Images have been merged into one parent category instead of one being the sub-gallery of another. This was done to ease some of the confusion about where stock images go as well as acting as a recognition that Stock imagery is very much an important facet of resources. It's a Resource/Stock Party!
