Artisans and Functional Art - June 2009

^Kitten-of-Woe:iconKitten-of-Woe: reports, July 8
This is the fifth in this series that features art by members of the Artisan Crafts gallery that I feature daily in one of my journal modules. I add one each day and each is featured for 24-48 hours and then all are featured at the beginning of the next month as a group. These artisan works are found through my casual browsing and they could be very recently uploaded or they could be older works. They could have been made by very well-known artisans, by someone still unknown, or by someone very new to dA. They are random finds, so one gallery might be represented more than another and one artist might get featured more than once in the same month. My picks are totally random finds and that which struck me as something wonderful... I hope you think so, too, and that you enjoy this new series!

Welcome to Milliway's!

^Kitten-of-Woe:iconKitten-of-Woe: reports, November 22, 2008

:star: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe :star:

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe was Douglas Adams' second book in his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and Milliway's is that restaurant where not only can it be reached only by time travel, but is located not at the end of space, but at the end of time and matter. It is my favorite setting in the entire series, especially as seen in the 1981 BBC TV series and it is there where the most impossibly unusual lifeforms congregate to watch the universe come to an end as they dine. One reason why I much prefer the TV series over the 2005 movie was that Milliway's was only a brief mention in the movie, but was the subject and setting of an entire scene in the TV series. If you have not seen the TV series, what in your imagination would you think the restaurant's patrons might look like, use, wear or eat? Some of the works in this collection were intended as fan art of HHGTTG but turn your imagination loose and see if you agree that Adams himself might have had a wry smile at this collection of deviations!

"Ladies and gentlemen," he said, "The Universe as we know it has now been in existence for over one hundred and seventy thousand million billion years and will be ending in a little over half an hour. So, welcome one and all to Milliway's, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!"

What a totally awesome list. Several faves here, for sure!

This one [link] is not the quatity of those on the list, but I would like to plug one of my own works. I've never been able to find the right name for her, so I have always called her She. But you might have found her real name, so perhaps I'll rename her Milliway...
We'll see. :D

Thank you for the awesome list!

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
