Wind is used as an energy source for more then 1000 years. It powered mills, water pumps and ships. Now modern wind turbines generate electric power in a climate friendly way. Wind power consumes no fuel, and emits no air pollution. Wind power is now the fastest growing energy source.
Today about 100GW Wind power capacity are installed worldwide, 23GW alone in Germany. Tightly followed by the United States and Spain, but India and China also catch up quickly. And from an aesthethic point of view using wind for power generation is elegant and pleasing for the eye. These amazing pictures show this very good, don't they?
Take care, your worship, those things over there are not giants but windmills. (Miguel de Cervantes in "Don Quixote de la Mancha (1605-1615)") Windmills at La Mancha, Spain, made famous by the 1605 novel Don Quixote, are a national treasure.

Historic windmills all over the world once important for a medieeval economy now mainly serve as tourist attractions.

Also keep in mind that Columbus would have never been able to discover America without sail ships. And the empires of ancient Rome, of Spain and Britain where relying for centuries on wind powered ships.
The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.(Edward Gibbon in "The Decline And Fall Of The Roman Empire (1776)")

Sails are still a common sight at our lakes and oceans.

Industrialisation brought us first windmills for electric energy production.

Modern gigant wind turbines can be more then 100 meters high and produce up to 5GW each.

To think for yourself, you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself! Think for yourself, question authority... - Timothy Leary
