Today is World AIDS Day. It's the day we think about and support those with AIDS and remember those who have been lost to it. World AIDS Day began on this day, December 1st, in 1988. Today is about awareness and fighting prejudice that comes with the terms HIV and AIDS.
AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a medical condition that is developed due to HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) damaging a person's natural defenses against disease. Living around the world, over 35 million people suffer from HIV today, including over 2.5 million children - and many millions more have died from AIDS.
It's estimated that about 50% of the people who are diagnosed with HIV die before the age of 35. As of yet, there is no cure, which is why raising awareness and dispelling myths is so important.
The colour red is associated with this cause. A red ribbon is often worn to show support for World AIDS Day. Now, while I could have found deviations depicting red ribbons, instead I chose something else red to lift your spirits

After deciding I wanted to feature balloons, the song
99 Red Balloons by Nena came to mind, so here I present 99 thumbs of red balloons in honour of World AIDS Day
