Interview with *jusstaQ: Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
A: Hm let me think- I'm Justyna, but friends call me Justa. I was born in Poland 24 years ago (old fart, huh?). Currently I work as a graphic designer (I think it's a perfect job for someone who loves digital art). I love comic style, vexels & vectors (obviously- since my gallery is full of those lol) and scary movies. Let's not forget about music too!Q: How did you start vexelling?
A: It all started over 2 years ago when I found a site called vexels.net (unfortunatelly closed now) and I really wanted to try that style.Q: Who are some of the artists that have inspired you along the way?
A: Definitely Adam Hughes is on the top of my list (*AdamHughes). All you have to do is just take a look at his gallery and you'll know why. I also always loved Phil Noto's ([link]) style. As for vectors and vexels: most of the people that I met at vexels.net inspire me: ^Jules1983, ^shebid, *lilvdzwan, ~marleen, ~Joaris333, *Mirabel. The list is very long, trust me.Q: Can you name and describe a few of your techniques?
A: Name and describe? Oh wow, this will be hard Vexels & vectors- I work with Photoshop (lately with Corel too) and use the pen tool and my imagination. I also try to do some digital paintings- I still kinda suck at that lol. Same thing with photomanipulations. Basically it all starts with an idea- then I try to sketch it (or if I have a reference image I think what can I do with that) and then add colours.Q: When you're really wanting to vexel, but you just can't seem to produce, what usually helps you?
A: It can be anything- a song that I've heard, a movie, someone else's art, and old drawning that I made.Q: What advice would you give to new vexellers? To vexellers in a block?
A: To new ones- practice makes perfect. No one is great at the beginning. Just don't get frustrated when something goes wrong- try again! Rome wasn't build in one day you know? And if you're having a block give yourself some time. The inspiration will come later or sooner.Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: Smile. Optimistic people live longer.
