A recent journal has brought my attention to how vicious we can become when it comes to fandoms.
A friend of a friend that I've been watching for not too long recently submitted a journal about her opinion on fandom wars. While reading this, I felt a very uncomfortable, churning feeling in my stomach of discomfort. It was brought to my attention that someone had gone onto a laptop of a friend, re-wrote a story that was sitting in the files to better suit this person's own fandom tastes with COMPLETE disregard to the owner of the laptop's own feelings on the subject. She even went and deleted a piece of fanart that was drawn by the laptop's owner, because she so hated the pairing that was drawn.
I also find myself surfing through deviantART, and it strikes me that it is easier to find a character/character pairing HATE club, than a character fanclub. On a lot of these character hate clubs, it isn't uncommon to find disturbing pictures of said character being stabbed, shot, raped ect. ect. And the wars that erupt from the people who are fans of the character and the members of the hate club are absolutely ridiculous...
Now, you may be thinking that anyone has the right to dislike or like whatever they want, but are hate clubs really necessary? Is diving into someones personal files just because you like a pairing that they don't really absolutely neccessary?
And as of late, fandom wars have been getting worse with the eruption of Twilight. "Team Edward," and "Team Jacob," for example. Now, like I said, it's fine to prefer one character over the other, but I've seen right before my eyes friends get into actual CAT fights over the two FICTIONAL characters. To actually turn against and fight your own friend over a character that does not even exist...
Has the world of fandom gone too far?
You can easily browse deviantART and find a war over fanclubs, fanart, Twilight, ect ect. But what happened to freedom of opinion? Should people really feel awful for liking Haruno Sakura, just because there's a Sakura-Haters-Club? Do people deserve to be flamed because they drew a pairing of characters that THEY enjoy, just because someone else doesn't?
In my opinion, hate clubs should be banned. As I've said multiple times, it's fine to dislike something, but to absolutely hate it when it's not even real in the first place is just wrong.
Why don't we all just snuggle back into the fandoms we love, and leave each other alone. You can love Goku x All seven Dragon Balls, for all I care, that's what you like, and that has nothing to do with me.
The bans you get from flaming aren't worth the fandom, let's all just try to submit fanart without ripping each other's heads off, shall we?
Tomato, out.
Devious Comments
Humanity has gone too far and lacked the focus on what's REALLY important in life. People hate too fast and love too slow.

On deviantart, so far, yeah, I've gotten in one fight with someone, but that was on /my/ page, /my/ stamp, and they were insulting me numerous times. I don't care who you are, what you like, I don't "appreciate" being insulted.

I think haters should back off and stop being so obnoxiously opinionated and start wars over stuff as frivolous as fictional pairings and whatnot. @__@

... no, seriously.
Elegance in simplicity. Beauty in imperfection. <3
Just because someone dislikes/ likes something doesn't mean they're an idiot and they should be insulted.

Y'know, it makes me think, if Random person X like ship A/B and actively went around harassing people for liking ship A/C, I certainly wouldn't want to be part of ship A/B if there are idiots like X there.
But if that were the case, no one would be apart of a shipping or a fandom. D:
