It's official: AbuseOfReason's first contest has begun! Thanks to your wonderful input on my latest poll, I have decided to host the Beauty In Emptiness Contest!

FYI: Because of my inability to do any art for the last 2 months (computer problems), if anyone would like to donate stamps or anything to help promote this contest, I will make it worth your while!

Here's the details!


BEAUTY IN EMPTINESS CONTEST

RULES
Contest begins Friday, December 12, 2008. All entries must be submitted to DA after this date.
Contest ends Friday, January 30th, 2008.
Entries must be submitted before or on this date to qualify.
Entry must be made specifically for this contest, and must, in the Artist’s Comments, include a link to the contest rules (either in News or my journal).
Entries may be in the following categories: Digital Art, Photomanipulation, Traditional Art and Photography.
One entry per artist, though you are allowed to switch out your entry for a new one as long as it abides by all contest rules and is within the contest time limits. Just note me if this is the case.
Donators may participate, but of course, Judges may not.
If you would like to be a Judge or Donor, please contact me via note! I will take up to 9 Judges (8 including myself) and as many Donors/donations as we can get.
We will also be including a Viewers’ Vote to help decide our winner.

Art Piece Rules
This contest is entitled Beauty In Emptiness for a reason: This is all about the emotion you can create and portray using the vastness of a space.

There are three simple requirements for the type of art for this contest. Your piece should include the following:
A ground plane
A ‘sky’ plane
One foreign addition

Your ground/sky planes do not necessarily have to be nature themed; feel free to use industrial areas, buildings, rooms, etc., so long as the space is vast and empty. Your ‘foreign addition’ can be anything: a person, a building, a statue, an animal, a natural occurrence such as a group of rocks or large, single tree, etc. But keep in mind that your piece is going to be judged on how well your foreign addition flows with the landscape/scenery you create! So don’t throw in any old thing; make sure it fits with the energy and emotion of your piece.

Also, your foreign addition SHOULD NOT be the focal point of your piece. It should not be front and center, with the ground/sky in the background. All three of the elements should blend, compliment and be irreplaceable to the overall energy of your piece; none should shadow the others. Please see the examples below:

Here’s what we’re NOT looking for. Notice how, while there is big space in the rear, the model or object is the obvious foreground focal point, and the background is indeed just that- pushed back:
(This is not any negative judgment on the pieces themselves, of course!)



Remember- these are just examples to help illustrate what the contest is about. Feel free to run wild! Beyond those three components, your options are endless!
