Although this does not apply to everyone, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority perceive things from a different point of view from reading this.

Art Against Child Abuse

=peterdawes:iconpeterdawes: reports, December 14, 2008
During our campaign to raise awareness for child abuse, we received several emotive and thought-provoking submissions by those of you interested in helping to raise awareness. We have been thankful for each and every one of you who have stepped forward to speak out against this injustice in our society today.

Don't let it end here.

Children Deserve to Be Safe

Before today is over, 3 CHILDREN WILL DIE from being abused. At least one of them will be a baby - less than a year old. They other two probably haven't yet celebrated their 5th birthdays. More than 510 other children will be physically abused today and another 270 will be sexually abused. In total, over 2,700 children will be abused today.

Continue to tell your stories, share the message with others, and donate to the cause in some way, be it with your time, money, or art. The more this issue is kept in the public eye, the more chance that its victims can find help and healing.

This ribbon and these stamps, courtesy of =Obsidian-Siren and =MistRaven remain available for you to raise awareness.

WHAT I WANT TO OFFER FOR CHILD ABUSE PROJECTS !

Hello Peter Dawes and others interested in this subject.

Thank you for your very needed initiative raising awareness about childabuse.

I am a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Denmark. I have several Candidate plus a Masters Degree - one of the candidate degrees in psychology is on Child psychology with specialization in child abuse.

I am also writing lyrics, music, and not least, storybooks for children, and I am sometimes working as a consultant for childrens litterature and storybook authors.

One of the great ways of applying art in relation to abused children is the bossibility to use Bibliotherapy with children that have suffered physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse or neglect. It is really very important to have not only specialized knowlege about the implications of the various forms for abuse at different ages, as well as in different social, cultural, and other settings; it is also important to know "what " a child of a certain age can understand - both in respect to narratives and images, "what" children actually are asking for when they are asking to be told a story, - "how" it is possible to understand a childs needs, when asking for a story, before it has intellectually developed to be able to convey it, and a cohort of other factors.

WHAT I WANT TO OFFER:
If you or others would start a child abuse project, or are already working on a child abuse project, to whichj I can agree, I would be able to and glad to:

a) Give professional, psychological advise about child abuse, child psychology, psychology in general, psychotraumatology - and other subjects.

b) assist artists - writers of storybooks and illustrators as a consultant, to ensure that their project will be psychologically as sound as possible.

c) Give advise about Bibliotherapy, as well as other forms of therapy for abused children.

d) Give detailed advise about what elements a narrative needs to contain in order to be healing.

e) Write a storybook story, which I eventually could donate to a project for publication.

Please feel free to contact me. You find my e-mail address and other relevant information how to get in touch on my DA page.

Best regards

M.psych Christof Lehmann

"be the change you wish to see in the world" :peace:
:iconamskeptic:
This whole child abuse topic is a painful one every which way you look at it. I am as dismayed at the greater society's reaction to child abuse as I am to the child abuse itself. We are perpetuating the cycle, generation after generation, and it appears that we have not yet figured out how to actually prevent it. It is not about the severe laws and punishment and social approbation. We have to have the courage to understand it, and we have to have the courage to pursue real solutions. The art and the poetry devoted to child abuse has one critical and important gift to all of us: it reflects better than any other method, the emotional tragedy. It is precisely this emotional reality that has to be shared with those who are cut off from it. I see, in these punitive prosecutor/Nancy Grace TV shows and media reports, no evidence that they neither truly understand the emotional injury within child abuse victims nor do they care to understand the devastation within the perpetrators. Our job, through art, is to wake others up to the emotional reality that connects us all to each other. In the written realm of art, Lolita's Humbert Humbert was destroyed by own his mystifying impulses as surely as was Dolores to his addicted actions. And if, in his sorrow, he were to find himself on the cross next to Jesus Christ Himself, I would think his entrance to heaven would be assured as the two criminals who did hang next to Jesus. If your art and your poetry can reach the emotional cores of all who see it, you will be doing the Universe the greatest favor.
