DA Writers: In The Shadow of the Artist

=sleyf:iconsleyf: reports, December 15, 2008
Is it true that people don't read any more? It could well be! I've noticed time and time again that many of DA's writers are left to lurk in the shadows of the artists, photographers (and assorted other!). Well not any more!

Every week I plan on bringing you a collection of 4 writers who I think need some time in the lime light. Remember, stories were being told before writing even existed, and story tellers were revered people, those with the talent to write should be praised and noticed, and that's what I hope will happen.

:iconalois-noette:

A writer of short poems. Her style is dark and morbid, yet very intelligent. It makes you stop and think about everything around you.

Light and Dark Taught us First makes us realise that we as humans still retain our primal instincts, and that we still rely on these, but try so hard to control them.
Her Childhood's Garden is a poem that holds that strange nostalgic feel we all long for
Before-Life, in the words of the writer "That strange feeling you get between waking and sleeping...sort of déjà vu, excitement, and fear all at once, combined with some nameless emotion that sits inside and will not leave..."

:iconbitter-melon:

A writer with a casual free flowing style, if you want a lighter read, then this is the gallery for you.

How I Lost My Voice a short little poem written in that familiar Shakespearian English that we all know so well and either love or hate, nicely done, this will surely put a smile on your face.
Indigo Sky a slightly more sorrowful tone in writing, but brilliant use of colour and fantastic imagery
A Smart Cookie a great little poem about a cookie, and a lesson it can teach us.

:iconosyris:

A great writer who not only can write short stories, but also poems off the top of his head. If you want a mixed read, then go here!

I See the Waves A short poem about thought and hope, and those difficult questions in between.
Will-o'-the-Wisp follow the adventures of Arthur and his faery friend Gloriana. If you've grown up reading stories by Robin Jarvis or Alan Garner then you'll like this.
Tales Of Miw You like Vampires right? Well this story has them! But set far off from the usual vampire setting we're all used to, in the lands of Ancient Egypt.

:iconshadowfoxxx:

Ever wondered what it'd be like to be a Necromancer? Or if they even existed? Well if you're interested, then just click here!

Black Death Written in the more intimate first person view, follow Dahbora, or General Black Scar, as he lives through the terrible days of the Necromanian War
Black and Blue Ryanne is a rare Necromancer, she has mixed blood, but she also has great power, this story follows her "coming of age" and getting to grips with her abilities whilst meeting the dark and emotionless Raxterdax. Added to this, she had to keep an eye on a rowdy werewolf and stay in the good books of her stuffy Guardian Brotax, what's a girl to do eh?
Nyx A completely different tone, this is a murder mystery of epic proportions, prepare to be disturbed.

Seeking suggestions! If you know anyone who should be in here and needs to be seen, then don't hesitate to note me!

A good read is always nice, and I do feel bad for not paying more attention to the written world of dA. ^^;

:iconkittyrose:
This is a lovely idea. Literature should be praised as much as any other type of art. It's good to know that there are those who appreciate the written word and want others to do the same, as well.

--
And I believe this may call for a proper introduction, and well
Don't you see, I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue?
Panic! at the Disco
:iconwild-reto:
I really think this is a good idea.
I'm not a writer (not yet at least), but I feel we're all kinda drowning in the sea of webcam shots and stock photography.

:icondark-lilith:
As a poet myself, this is an awesome idea! Even when I first joined people tend to not pay as much attention to the literature available on dA, and there are some excellent writers out there!

If you thought I was even mildly amusing, check out this: [link] I am totally pimping the podcast :D

:iconangelicadonis:
It is sadly true people no longer appreciate literature. Its even tragic that "Text talk" is eroding our language and detracting words from our vocabulary. While I am guilty of not reading much literature on DA, my reason for this is that I use DA for visual art. Thats why I'm here. This is not to say that writers have no place here, indeed they do. I think that if perhaps the writers got more of the artists involved in their craft (getting the artists to depict their characters for example.) It may bridge the gap and bring more viewers to the writers pages.

Thats just my take on the issue.
:iconsleyf:
Thanks! I admit I don't rad either. I think that DA might need to think about breaking up into sections (I know it sounds cheesy) but if there was a special literature section it would be nice (not to mention a special fan art section to get it out of our faces)
