In response to psychonox bringing the original commDev thread to view again, Jackdirt and I were inspired to come up with a brand-new and unique commDev that could get all of our community involved in some way.

He and I tossed around a few ideas and ended up with 3 pieces of the puzzle that we knew we wanted to do with it. First, Jackdirt came up with an idea to include not only deviantart.com, but also deskmod.com in this commDev. That's right commDev is spreading like a wonderful virus. Next, I wanted this one to touch on Art History in some way. Lastly as a final salut to all the forms of creativity supported in our community, we wanted to make this one cross-categorical. Meaning that we will include writers, photographers and graphics artists. There are seperate rules layed out below for each category.

One difference from past commDevs is the way in which we all participate with each other. With this commDev we will all be creating complete creations following the specified guidelines of the commDev. We will NOT be adding to a previous uploads. We WILL all be starting our own creations, completing them and uploading them as " commDev AH-screenname" to either deviantart or deskmod..... or BOTH. In this way...we will all be able to search for "commDev AH" at either site and be able to view everyone's masterpieces.

Now for the guidlines:

WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS (poetry, fiction, non-fiction) :
1) pick a favorite color and a favorite artist (visual, musical or literary)
2) create a piece based only on these 2 items as your theme (fav. color & artist) - be creative with this
3) upload your work to deviantart (unfortunately there are no sections for writers at deskmod) name it - commDev AH-screenname

GRAPHICS CREATIONS (wallpapers, indyart) :
1) pick a favorite color and a favorite artist (visual, musical or literary)
2) create a visual piece of art using only your favorite color (full tonal range - ex. light blue, blue, dark blue and all variations) and your favorite artist's name (you can use this name many times and with many fonts and can be manipulated in any way you feel necessary).
You MUST only use this color and this artists name (no images can be brought in and manipulated - you can however go crazy in your graphics app with those colors, using brushes or whatever to create content for the image - again NO PHOTOS only your ingenuity)
3) Upload your piece to either deviantart, deskmod or both. name it - commDev AH-screenname

PHOTOGRAPHS (stock photos, photography) :
1) pick a favorite color and a favorite artist (visual, musical or literary)
2) take a photo using only your favorite color (full tonal range - ex. light blue, blue, dark blue and all variations) and your favorite artist as the theme - be creative find ways of expressing your favorite artist or what their about in a unique way.
3) upload your work to deviantart (unfortunately there are no sections for photographers at deskmod) name it - commDev AH-screenname

Goal:
Why the limitations you ask. Simple. Some of the most creative works of art happen because artists have either set themselves limits or have had limits put on them. This commDev will show all of you how much creativity can occur with such limited means. So, the next time you're complaining that you don't have a photo to work with, you don't have anything to write about or to photograph ..think about this project and create for yourself some intersting limitations and abide them. Limitations can be inspirational.

One last thing, study your literary and art history, there is much to be learned from it.
