It may be hard to believe, but age plays a big factor in determining if you're a good artist. Please if you would, think about it for a moment. When you look at a picture and it’s not as good, or not particularly done ‘well,’ it is easy to assume that it is due to the artist being younger than yourself. Or rather you would think that taking into account the artist’s age, the work is good despite his/her age. It is the same as if you were looking at another picture and you’re impressed with, and this time the artist is older than you.

You think that at a certain age there is bound to be a difference in skill levels and standards in art.

Now as much as some hate these standards and expectations, they play a key role for one’s development in art. As you grow older, you would expect that your art improves because of the experience you gained by time.

Therefore, it is a bit silly to feel discouraged if you compare your art to a younger artist, or an older one for that matter.
The best way is to compare your art to those in your age group.

Although comparing yourself to another is unhealthy in terms of low self-esteem, it is at times like this to determine where you stand in your personal progress. You would never know just how good you are unless you know how good your peers are. Or even more unwavering in continuing your progress to surpass the average talent in your age group.
