PROJECT: Spreading love is priceless

=Talei:iconTalei: reports, November 9
What does love cost? Its priceless! It costs nothing. Well, okay, perhaps that isn't quite true. It costs a little bit of time and a lot of affection. And maybe a sprinkle of passion, too.

How would you feel if you opened a library book and found a note saying that you're a beautiful person for being who you are? What if you logged in to your deviantART account, and found similar messages in your message center, would it make you smile? Excuse me for being presumptious here, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it would.

There's Probably No God -- Atheist Bus Campaign

`BoffinbraiN:iconBoffinbraiN: reports, January 11

How would you feel if you were told, as a non-believer, that you and your family were destined to spend eternity in Hell? Well, that's what happened to Ariane Sherine when she visited a website advertised by a Christian-themed bus advert.

So, in the interests of balancing things out, the young comedy writer started a campaign of her own, which is receiving overwhelming support from Atheists and agnostics around the UK, and the world over.

The plan, to push a thought-provoking advertising campaign on London Buses, bearing the message "There's probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life," was put into action with a fund-raising scheme, aiming to raise £5,000 ($7,500). It has now raised over £140,000 ($210,000), which means the banners will now be seen in Greater London and other cities around England too.

Prof. Richard Dawkins, a famous supporter of Atheism, calls the campaign "consciousness-raising" and urges people "Don't listen to what a priest tells you [...] Just think for yourself."

Some hardcore Atheists are against the 'probably' in the message, as they believe there is definitely no God. However, the most likely reason for this addition is in order to comply with relevant Advertising Standards rules.

What Next?

This story has only just begun. This last week, the posters have caught the eyes of thousands of Londoners, and just recently we've seen the start of a similarly supportive campaign of Tube cards, with quotes from the like of Albert Einstein, Douglas Adams and others.

Watch the latest interviews from Australia and previously from the BBC and you'll see that this campaign couldn't be fronted by a nicer or more honest, open-minded individual.

This is just stupid. Both sides. And not because of their various beliefs. Because they're fighting in a negative, let's beat the other and prove them wrong manner.
:iconabfc:
I agree. Atheism leaves somebody so much less to worry about; makes life far more simple and enjoyable.

:iconaxertion:
yea, this promotes nothing but arguments. Why would people fight to prove God doesn't exist? It doesn't make sense to me. Atheists are in the same boat as Christians when it comes to believes (they both have their own thoughts, ideas, opinions).

And saying that Christians "don't enjoy life" is very farfetched. We life for something more than money, drugs, alchohol ect.

Anyways, I'm not going to waste my time voicing my opinions on this matter. It does make me laugh at how ignorant people are when it comes to others beliefs.

Great article! And just be mindful of people who will throw <religious text> quotes at you. It can get quite messy ;)

:iconkermodog:
Well, I'm athiest and all, but this whole thing just doesn't 'feel right'. If it was put in another way, it may sound nicer and less negative about religion.

If I can put it this way...
Fights start because of religion.
So do arguements.
So do wars.

I am not against religions or people's way of life. However, I am definitely against those who are against religions. And those who convert people of course :slow:
But seriously, no one should critic others for this kind of stuff. If you want to believe, fine.
Really, this article should say "Think for yourself. Don't be persuaded into this athiest thing."

However, because I'm more with the side of athiesm I'll have to click the 'love it' button. :slow: Sorry guys.

True :/

Btw, be prepared for a lot of religious arguements :slow:

:iconjellystick:
I think people should just believe what they want to. If they want to believe in their god, then they could.

...Prepare for a lot of debate. @u@

These debates sometimes gets dragged down into fighting, but this isn't an example of one of them. The group merely wants to provoke free and critical thinking among the public. Ariane herself says she's not trying to convert anyone.
