Better Digital Photography Magazine-Free online

^kkart:iconkkart: reports, November 26
From the Publishers of "What Digital Camera" and "Amateur Photographer", IPC Media today has announced a new online photography magazine, "Better Digital Photography" that people can read free and fully online, it is also interactive with embedding video tutorials from the magazine and mouse-over tips. Aimed at the entry and intermediate level photographer, it is heavily devoted to equipment and technique-focused photography content.

From the IPC Media website:

Publishing director Alex Robb says: “This is an exciting and innovative new venture for the photo portfolio. The editorial team have worked incredibly hard to create bespoke content, including technique videos and other interactive content. I am delighted that we have secured distribution to around two million photographers to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the excellent tips and advice. Better Digital Photography is a further indication of how IPC continues to innovate in this competitive sector.”

Editor Mat Gallagher adds: “We wanted to create a product that helps the reader expand their knowledge, while being easy to use. It is thanks to the talents of art editor Steve Crabb that we have managed to produce such a visually stimulating and accessible magazine that surpasses anything else in the market place.”

My thoughts, this is downright awesome and VERY well done, it is like looking at an actual magazine, but the fact that it has videos embedded within for tips, tutorials, and techniques, make this even better! You can also subscribe for free, via email for upcoming issues, make personal notes within the magazine, and download a copy to your hard drive. GO GET IT!

Ten Tips for Shooting from the Hip

`Tepara:iconTepara: reports, January 15
Shooting from the hip isnt really something Im good at at all.
But just because Im not good at it, it doesnt mean you cant do it yourself.
If your anything like me. When your walking down town you see something and you wish you could take a photo of it, but if you do, chances are you will get a nice :slap: or if you are live in my town you will thankful if a :slap: is all you walk away with :faint:
Or maybe you just feel weird pulling out the cam and just taking a photo of the lady with all she owns in her shopping trolley.
Maybe you feel your invading someone's privacy.

Here are a few tips you will hopefully find helpful.
A way of getting those photos with as less or no attention to yourself.

Ten Tips for Shooting from the Hip

Tip 1- Use wide angle lens and get close to your subjects.

Getting up close with a wide angle lens puts you in the middle of the commuters heading to work. Crowded streets, markets and public places are ideal for up close experiences.

Tip 2 – Practice self portraits in mirrors to get a feel for field of view.

Hotel room mirrors provide endless practice for Hip Shot self- portraits helping correlate your field of view with that of your camera.

Tip 3 – Setting the camera on a table is one of the easiest set-ups

Take away places become a hive of morning activity, making it easy to frame a shot by placing the camera on the table.

Tip 4 – Hold the camera above your head when in crowded conditions

A slight angle from above captures the atmosphere as the crowd

Tip 5 – Minor change of perspective can have a nice effect on the image

When someone is taking a photo of you, try taking a hip shot of them, making sure to get below lens pointed at you.

wasnt easy finding photos that fitted this tip

Tip 6 – The more you shoot, the luckier you get.

There is no denying that sometimes a coherent composition is more luck than anything else, especially when you are travelling down an escalator and reaching over the railing.

Tip 7 – Develop a Hip Shot mentality when on photo outings.

Develop a Hip Shot mentality on photo outings. Being ready to shoot as you walk down the street brings opportunities on every street corner.

Tip 8 – Embed a reflection to lay evidence of the Hip Shot.

Tip 9 – Your foot makes a great universal mono-pod.

Have an image in you mind but not wanting to lay down in the street.
Set your camera down on the top of your foot

Tip 10 – Use your shadow to frame the shot.

Self Portrait
Sometimes we can’t see what the frame will look like because we have the completely wrong perspective. Using your shadow to align the shot

Sorry wesnt able to find one that I was happy with to add in here.

Well I hope you have all enjoyed this article, and I hope you have lernt a few new tips.
At some point I would like to add a news article submitting some of the great hip shots here in dA. If you know of any good shots. Please link me to it but either commenting in here or sending me a note.

If you have enjoyed this article please show your support by faving it :D

Thanks everyone.
