Animals in Danger: Featuring Wild Cats

=Flame-of-the-Phoenix:iconFlame-of-the-Phoenix: reports, January 21
:silentkitty: [NOTE] Looking through Deviantart I came to a realization: for every known artist, there are hundreds that are overlooked, many that are exceptionally talented. Some of them will be featured below; please, if you have the time check out their galleries and support them! :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:pointr: Hundreds of animals today are facing extinction: their homes are destroyed, they are slaughtered for their body parts or fur, and their food sources are lessening.

:pointr: One way to help these animals is by letting people know how bad the situation is and try to encourage people to support various groups trying to help out endangered animals. I decided to write an article featuring some wonderful artists and their photographs or drawings of certain animals, some basic information on the condition of said animal in the wild, as well as some groups/clubs in case you want to get involved. Enjoy!

//Status levels (from worst to best)://
Extinct in wild, Critical risk, Endangered, Vulnerable, Lower Risk, Stable

Featured: Wild Cats
------------------------------------------------------

Cheetah

Fast facts: - can reach up to 70mph.
- the only big cat that purrs.
- high cub mortality rate in wild: ~90%

Status: :bulletorange: Endangered :bulletorange:

------------------------------------------------------

Clouded Leopard

Fast facts: - good swimmers
- can climb down from trees head first

Status: :bulletred: Critical risk :bulletred:

------------------------------------------------------

Cougar

Fast facts: - can jump up to 20 ft into a tree from the ground
- can eat a full porcupine, including quills, without seeming to be hurt

Status: :bulletorange: Endangered :bulletorange:

------------------------------------------------------

Well I thoroughly enjoyed that! I'm going back to school for Zoology with a special interest in feline predators, namely cheetahs, so of course this is right up my alley. =D And it's great to see a feature on clouded leopards too, I don't think they get enough spotlight, even though they're gorgeous!
