As many artists may have noticed, since the dawn of V.6 on deviantART, Daily Deviations have been seen at the bottom of the page. Much easier to access than before, but also, it seems that each time I look, there is always at least one D.D., that seems almost undeserving.
I always thought, at least, that before, Daily Deviations were for the best, the unique and the flat-out interesting. Whether it was traditional art, digital art, photography or sculpting. Now, when I look, I see things that look like nothing more than flatblocked doodles (some exceedingly odd), that became D.D.'s.
In my time here at dA, I have seen some
breathtaking art. Beautiful, thrilling, wild and simply amazing. I've seen the funnies, the cute ones--all of which make dA, deviant.
But, when you nominate something that the average twelve-year-old could accomplish within an hour, or a simple cartoonist (when I say "simple cartoonist", I mean like the junk on Cartoon Network) could jot down in five minutes--first try think. Think of the other artists, photographers, sculptors and writers out there.
Many great, amazing and extrodinary Daily Deviations exist, and continue to appear each and every day. Whether they are a sparse, simple painting that says a million words; or a story, taking you through someone else's life. They're still around. For example, =
Tammara's
Monoceros is a fine demonstration of beautiful, simple art (which most tastefully recieved a D.D.).
I don't know if I'm the only one that's noticed this, or if I am the only one who may care; but I suppose you can consider this a shout-out, a reminder, and a simple question. No matter how you may feel about what I've written, whether you agree or disagree, I'd like to know.
Devious Comments
But, I believe that the staff are defining a DD as art that they just want to share - they say it doesn't have the be great, or beautifully crafted, they say they just want to show it to the wider community.
But still, I wholeheartedly am on your side!

FAQ #327: How Can I get More Pageviews?
I hate it when suck ups get DD's and their art isn't even that good. >.>

Don't you d a r e close your eyes.
However, because art is subjective, it is difficult to really find the true "gems" that deserve a DD.
I do, however, understand where you're coming from. Well-said.

I think that, since the D.D. are so accessible, there have been more and more demands to see al sorts of art up, digital, traditional, film, scupture, so much so that we seem to be stufing the page, each and every day. i'd hate tothink that art that's really lacking any sort of depth or thought has been deemed good enough to be shared with thousands and thousands of people. The admins who have the authority to send out D.Ds, I think, should pick art that is well thought out, or at least meaningful in some way.

Surely, many people can disagree with a Daily D for multiple reasons. One primarily being, "how is this art?", "why is this here?", and my personal fav, "Is the gallery director sober?"
You have to understand that although you may not like the piece, there are others that do. And although the gallery director, (I don't know what it's like to be a gallery director, nor the responsibilities held in such a high position; I am basing my judgments of prior knowledge), may appreciate a piece for only one single day, it is up to them to choose what they think stands out in the gallery they oversee.
Maybe the Gallery Directors try to avoid repetition? Maybe there's nothing worthy to them? Who knows.
You opinion of art does not always equal the Gallery Director's opinion. There is not right or wrong answer to art since, anything can be considered art.
"Bull shit", is the usual response I receive. But have you actually thought of it? We can study classic commodities we use on a daily basis. Did you know that they even higher artists to develop cars so that they will appeal to a certain age, race, sex group? A prime example was the Pontiac Firebird in the 90's. That car was not made for the 40 year old father or the 16 year old teen, rather young punks who desire something that looks sleek.
Couches very from one model to another. Desks very from one model to another. Hell, even right down the to the cup you drink out of.
You are entitled to you opinion, just how a gallery director is entitled to theirs.
I've nominated this to be a DD [link] and I haven't even heard back from the admin who said she'd look at any nomination I gave her.

Some pieces that get DDs may be a little more undeserving, it's true, but give them their moment of glory and make them happy for a day, who cares? If I don't like a DD, I simply do not click on it. Getting a DD doesn't put you in art history books, it probably won't get you the job of your dreams or bring in the big bucks, and i think that people who deserve that kind of huge recognition usually end up getting it nowadays anyhow, regardless of deviantart. I know some fuckin awesome artists who have never even heard of Deviant, simply because they don't care and they don't 'need' it. So........whatever, this discussion could go on for hours so I'll finish my part here! Cheers
