Hundreds of animals today are facing extinction: their homes are destroyed, they are slaughtered for their body parts or fur, and their food sources are lessening.


One way to help these animals is by letting people know how bad the situation is and try to encourage people to support various groups trying to help out endangered animals. After getting a great reception on my last article, Animals in Danger: Featuring Wild Cats, I decided to write a series of articles featuring some wonderful artists and their photographs or drawings of certain animals, some basic information on the condition of said animal in the wild, as well as some groups/clubs in case you want to get involved. Enjoy!

African Wild Dog

Fast facts: - rarely stay in the same place for more than a day or two.
- can reach speeds of up to 60 mph
- has a very high success rate when hunting

Status: Critical Risk

Dhole (Asiatic Wild Dog)

Fast facts: - make a number of varied sounds: screams, whistles, clucks, and mews
- when together as a pack, they are able to fend off a tiger

Status: Endangered

Maned Wolf

Fast facts: - males as well as females have been seen regurgitating food for their young
- often referred to as a “stilt-legged fox”
- are monogamous (live with one partner)

Status: Vulnerable
