For the first time ever, all the Artisan Crafts Daily Deviations from the previous month will be featured in a news article in addition to being in a journal feature. There will also be a twist, which is that I am also adding the DD description to each one, an idea that was proposed by =kezbabybabe. I hope to make this into a series and am delighted that I just happened to have been able to start this series right at the very beginning of 2009. Also, the Daily Deviations that `Myana had featured have her name in parentheses at the end of each one because I wanted to keep the whole month in chronological order, rather than break them up like she and I used to do in our journals. I hope you enjoy this new series!

The suggester said, "Browsing around randomly I ended up in ~theshaggyturtle's gallery and I fell in love with her cute Hamburger Cupcakes. I think those are the best solution for whoever doesn't like hamburgers but wants to eat them anyway... actually I'm pretty sure they're more delicious and healthy than real hamburgers!" Jan 5 Tanzanite and diamond necklace by *dgreene (Jewelry)

The suggester had recommended something else, but this piece is one I've always fancied and to me it is a fantasy piece, as in my ever having such an exquisite necklace will likely always remain a fantasy! A large and stunning (14.4mm X 9.5mm) six-carat tanzanite flanked by diamonds and set in 14K white gold. Jan 6 Judge Bergan FF12 by *RikusWorld (Costumes)

One of many superb examples of *RikusWorld's wonderful skills in bringing life and authenticity to her range of costumes. This one is Judge Bergan, a Judge Magister and one of the highest in rank in the Archadian military from the videogame Final Fantasy XII. Jan 7 Moonlight Visit XS by =Handie (Fiber Art)

This artist is not only skilled at cross stitch, she also charts her own original cross stitch designs for retail and the suggester said that this "has a wonderful use of colour shading with just a touch of metallic thread to highlight the dragon's scales, and the fabric it has been stitched on is a perfect compliment to the pattern." Jan 8 Elkku Presley - First In Line by *annikamirjami (Plushies)

In commemoration of what would have been Elvis Presley's 74th birthday today, we give you the King of Rock 'n' Roll himself in a gold sequined jumpsuit! And, the suggester said that "the lips absolutely crack me up... I can practically hear him singing Jailhouse Rock!" Suggested by =Brain-Damnage.


Jan 9 Artarian by *Sharpener (Leatherworking)

According to the artist, this armor is "of my own design and made to fit the soldiers of the eastern corner of the empire Artaria (found in the Swedish LARP-society, Enhörningen). This particular one is made for a subcommander of a group of 20 strong total and with Arabian and southern Asian cultural influences. Jan 19 Marquetry MLK Guitar by ~decojo (Woodworking)

In commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr., the designs on this guitar, made by a master restorer, trompe l'œil painter, and marquetrist, were not painted on but worked using the marquetry technique, which in ~decojo's own words, "As the cabinet makers worked in the 18th century in Versailles, France, we inlay motifs in precious wood, tin, brass, and mother-of-pearl into the surface of the instrument... the cut of every small detail is made, assembled, inlaid, stuck, pressed, slowly dried, sanded, polished, and waxed or varnished." Jan 29 Queen Elizabeth I, the third.. by ~Noergli (Costumes)

A gown of Elizabeth I after Nicholas Hilliard's "Pelican" portrait from 1575, so called because Elizabeth had worn the pelican pendant to symbolize her love for her subjects. The artist not only made the elaborate gown based on Hilliard's painting, but also made the pelican pendant that she finished with silver leaf and rhinestones. This garment weighs a total of 44 lbs!
