Photojournalism: An Ethical Approach

`Helewidis:iconHelewidis: reports, January 10
If you click the link (title) you'll be directed to an online edition of a book originally published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Publishers, Hillsdale, New Jersey, 1991: Photojournalism An Ethical Approach by Paul Martin Lester.

I consider it food for thought and reflection about photojournalism and ethics and thus would like to share it with you.

Now follows an excerpt to lure you into reading the full version:

A photojournalist is a mixture of a cool, detached professional and a sensitive, involved citizen. The taking of pictures is much more than F-stops and shutter speeds. The printing of pictures is much more than chemical temperatures and contrast grades. The publishing of pictures is much more than cropping and size decisions. A photojournalist must always be aware that the technical aspects of the photographic process are not the primary concerns.

A mother crying over the death of her daughter is not simply an image to be focused, a print to be made, and a picture to be published. The mother's grief is a lesson in humanity.

If the photojournalist produces a picture without a thought for her tragedy, the lesson is lost. But if the photographer cares for her loss, is made more humane, and causes the readers to share in her grief, photojournalism has reached its highest potential.

Despite its frustrations and low moments, the lesson of humanity is why photojournalism is an extremely rewarding profession. For that reason, photojournalism is worthy of the best thought and actions possible by its participants.

A good book or a brainwashing device in disguise?

=SunsetDeamon:iconSunsetDeamon: reports, February 18
Twilight. Yeah, I'm talking about Twilight.

I liked the books at first. No, I OBSESSED over them at first.
Then, after, admittedly, reading them at least 2 times each, I began to realize... 'Hey. These book actually kinda suck!' (Yes. I am slow at times. I bet a bunch of you realized this halfway through reading the first one!)

And, recently, I found this on the Twilight Sucks Form --> [link]

It's a compiled list of all the stories told on the forms about ANYTHING violent done towards someone who said they hated/didn't like the books to a Twilight-obsessed fan (a.k.a. a Twi-tard). Some of them are hilarious, yes, but most of them are downright scary.

It's really quite freaky what some people will do over a book.
A poorly written one at that.

Take this one for example -- [link]

That's the worst of them all. Pretty much attempted MURDER.

Now, to my point.
Is Twilight a good book, or a cleverly-disguised brainwashing device?
I read the books a lot, and yet I didn't turn into a psycho fangirl like these people did:
Someone was wished a miscarriage, another whacked over the head with a book, and yet another brutally STABBED with a compass (The one used to make circles).
I really don't know what to make of this. Maybe someone should conduct an experiment and say to all the Twi-tards they know that they don't like the books and see what happens. (Not advised, though -- you may not come out of it alive).

Then again, I read the books way before it became a fandom, so maybe that has to do with it, too.
But, to the Twi-tards, if you're not a part of the fandom, you're worth nothing but shit.

Maybe it's me, but I found that the Twilight series was full of plot holes with blank, boring Mary-Sue characters. And the last book was... oh my gosh, just horrible. I won't go into a whole long discussion about it here, that's for someone else to do.

My point is, there is no reason for Twi-tards to act like this! It's a your opinion, my opinion thing. If you ask someone for their opinion, you don't just turn around and say it doesn't matter if they disagree with you! And you most definitely DO NOT attack them in any way!
It's simply sick, twisted, and horrible what people will do.

I'm totally given up faith in the future of humanity, that's for sure.

My advice to those of you who are ever asked this fateful question -- "So, do you LOOOOOVE Twilight?" or anything similar, WALK AWAY. Or just nod, agree with a "Yep." And Walk off.
For all you know, you could be chopped up in a river days later.

(By the way, thanks to =Sasori1234 and ~Wolfpants for editing this <3 luffles you gaiz! :D)

Obviously, the material of the book appeals to the female fetish of sparkly, romance. And the stereotypical vampire; vampires are seen as sexy, suave monsters of the night.

Women go crazy about romance books.

Lulz. I don't even think they realize that Stephenie Meyer honestly probably doesn't care if they defend her book or not.

This is better off as a fan fiction, too. Bella is such a Mary-Sue that it's not even worth words.
