Tonight, I had a bit of a sobering revelation while driving home. Well, it wasn't so much a revelation, nor a realization, or bright idea. It was more like, a pair of fast-approaching headlights compliments an SUV that thought the left-turn only lane actually went straight forward. The lady behind the wheel realized her mistake, and slammed on the brakes accordingly, swerving her vehicle to the side. Thus, leaving me sitting in my own car with nothing left to do but ponder...
...and pee a little. If time permitted.
A somber peace swept over me. The world moving in slow motion, and the high-pitched melody of screeching tires droning into a muffled hum. Nothing much I could do but observe these incoming headlights, powerless, at the mercy of the already-shaky driving skills of this woman.
Several deviants have passed away because of car accidents and other unpredictable calamities. But unfortunately, the majority of them fail to disclose their personal information to a trusted source, leaving their watchers and fans in the dark regarding their sudden unexpected demise. We all have near-death experiences throughout our lives, and such are moments of sudden clarity. Thoughts we never wanted to contemplate come surging upon us, as we descend below the water's surface, come face to face with ravaging fangs, or stare down two headlights ablaze with terrifying speed.
Should I kick the bucket, will anybody know? It's a troubling question, as we contemplate if we'll even be remembered or mourned upon mortal departure. Press the question upon yourselves. Will anybody know?
Take steps. Be ready. Be one of the few who does get known, who will get remembered, and avoid being amongst the majority who make the ultimate sacrifice, only to be considered as just another deviant who left without even saying good-bye. Make a will, get your intentions known to family members, but in that, an addendum with your login information for social networking websites. Are you covered?
Am I covered? I am, now.
As the SUV lurched violently to my left, it just barely missed the front of my car. The wind from the rear of her car whipped against mine. I saw it wobble back into its lane, and continue churning into the darkness in my rear-view mirror. I spit a few curse-words, as would anybody relieved to be further spared St. Peter's judgment for another day. Yet as the green left arrow shone through the windshield, I hesitated, checking all directions, slowly rolling across the intersection to the irritation of the guy behind me.
And upon getting home, sent an Email to my parents, my brother, and to two of my most trusted friends. I'm covered. And as macabre a concept it is, it took a major weight off my shoulders, because I now know that I won't alienate my thousands of Online contacts.
You, too, should find your dA Godparents. So you don't fade away.
Devious Comments
I do find the image of you, seeing the headlights, and thinking about all of us on dA during your final seconds (happily not so final) rather humorous. I don't know if you really were, but reading this post put the image in my head.
Glad your alright, man.

Thomas Paine wrote "The Rights of Man," not "The Privileges of Law Abiding Citizens That Aren't Brown People or Praying to Allah"
Honestly, I was thinking one of two things, not quite which as my mind was kind of blurry with activity. It was either "will my mother be okay?" or "HOLY CRAAAAAP!" The realization came as I was driving home afterward.

It's not that often we stop and think about such things as we go on with our daily lives and therefore these things go unsaid or unaddressed, but I can say that you would be missed should anything ever happen to you.
Oh, and by the way... I'm not dead... yet...
For me a simple Hes dead. would work fine. Its not like I did anything really incredible for anyone.

The DA Music Forum - "You're too stupid to listen to music."
A few folks I work with have picked up exotic diseases from some of the places we travel to and died from them. Not many, not even 1% of us, but still it's something of an uncommon risk.
