GOOD DAY AND HAPPY SPRING SQUARE LOVERS!

March is here, and everything around is pretty and filled with the exciting new life emotion; so, to keep the joyful spirit blooming, our club is proud to present the
MONTHLY BULLETIN. As you may know, we're proposing, on a monthly basis, the administrators' choices from our club journals and gallery, as well as an interview with an artist who is both talented and active in our club - enjoy the reading.

Mr. Tom's choices
from the journal feature: Red, Green, Blue... blurred characters... blurry silhouettes... sometimes the world is not so square...

and from the members' submitted art:the square size is quiet rare in street photography... may be due to history and inheritance of the masters like Cartier-Bresson and his sons... also technical reasons, the 6x6 camera is more intended to slow photography... and I think, also due to the perspective, wich is difficult to fit well in a square... hopefully, there is exceptions

Ms. Stefanie's choices
from the journalsPaint spills into the movement of being--
blurred and abstractions---isolated in a box.

and from the submitted squaresI have said it before--and i suppose i am going to say it again;
macros of natural wonders--work so well in a square format. It avoids
the ordinary --by isolating the details--so that it becomes so much more
a dimensional expose --of form --design and colour.

Ms. Crina's selections
from the club journalsI suggest images that make me feel uncomfortable; borderline scenes between real and surreal - they have this special iconic quality to them - reversing the roles and making me feel as if I am the one being looked at - and my reaction is expected as a paradigm of perception.

from the club gallery:Portraits are of course well adapted for square format; however, there are some portraits which fill the shape in a splendid way - the images below are poetic, intense and they stand out by the balanced composition.
Uncomfortable silence is the word of order.

And now, time for our
FEATURED INTERVIEWWe've invited the lovely

to share with us some of her thoughts regarding squares, photography and facts of her life .
1.Introduce yourself - when did you start photography, who are you apart from a dA member?starting with the simple facts: female, german, 1974.
i never thought about defining myself
i started with photography when i was about 15 or 16 with an agfa compact (can't remember any more details) - just to have the pictures (okay, to be honest: to hort them)... to watch my pictures if i want to do that.
i took pictures of my hometown and the castle ruins around. sometimes nature. nothing else
- i was never interested in photographing people, just places, cities and castle ruins.
photography is my kind of therapy.2.Why is it that you present your images in square format as opposed to landscape/portrait perspective? don't know how it comes. i just love square features, square news, square journals, square galleries... maybe a square is a statement?!<i/>

3.Do you own a medium format camera? Which one, if the case... if no, when and how do you decide on square (before/after shot, with the subject...)?
owner (and to you =mamazmeilor also a user) of a few holgas: pinhole 135pc, 35 afx, 120 gfn, 120 cfn and now waiting for my new lomographic love toy - the mr. pink diana f+.
and polaroid: 636 and pinhole 80.
i also have two digital cameras, but there's nothing to compare to the surprise (good and bad
) when i see the first time through brandnew pictures.
well, lots of people will have a different point of view: i'm quite old school which means that i want to have pictures in my hands, not just virtual pictures on my laptop. same thing with books... i want to hold a book in my hands, no fan of e-books at all. same thing with mp3 - i want a cd! with a booklet! with lyrics in it! (lyrics of black- and death metal songs are not always understandable only by hearing.)

4.Do you view yourself as a square freak? How do you think *SixbySix is helping square loving photographers?
yes.
i can only answer for me: sometimes i surf the sixbysix gallery to find new artists or work i didn't recognize before.
i suspect some people i watch uploading pictures behind my back. but don't tell that anyone - just an idea of me
(people could think i'm paranoid.)
5.Do you photograph a mirror or a window? what are you attempting to show in your photography?
first answer: a window - i want to capture the things i see the way i see them.
second answer: a mirror - i want to capture the things i see the way i see them.
short answer: both.
6.Your inspiring square works/artists on dA?
