The Emerald

~wibbledile:iconwibbledile: reports, March 3
So you have all heard of Emeralds. This simply sparkling-green precious stone is sometimes even more valued than diamonds. It truly gives its owner the gift of eloquence.

The Greeks associated this stone with the goddess Venus, and for many people it is a symbol of constancy and true affection reflecting the security of love. Legend has it that if an Emerald is given to a lover the stone will pale and grow dull as the love fades (don’t go into a panic, your stone might just be dirty!).

The name comes from the Greek word Smaragdos, which means “green stone”. Hermes gave Aphrodite a huge carved Emerald tablet. Many ancient races thought of the Emerald as the stone of the Gods. In the book of Revelations, Emerald is said to compose the throne of God. The Holy Grail is speculated to be carved from a huge Emerald… which fell from Satan’s crown when he was banished from heaven.

And somewhere someone suggested that Jesus used an Emerald bowl at the last supper. The Incas and Aztecs worshipped it as a sacred stone. The first Emeralds came from the Egyptian desert, not surprising then that Cleopatra made gifts of them to her favourite ambassadors.

Julius Caesar collected Emeralds for their healing properties, which are vast. Nero, while watching the gladiators in the arena, used an Emerald to lengthen his vision.

The Emerald is an excellent general healer. Acts as a blood detoxifier and encourage abundance, growth, peace, harmony, love and fidelity. It also lifts depression and helps those in need of inspiration. The Emerald is said to give inner clarity and wisdom, and has been used for healing asthma, heart problems, indigestion, jaundice and poor eyesight. Emerald is the zodiac stone for Cancer and birthstone for May.

Obviously if you would like to add something or disagree about anything said here, please feel free!

Nice article with cool info and great features. :)

Well done :)

I am a big fan of the emerald as well. The emerald tablet is also the holy grail to the alchemist. It is said to have the key that is needed for transmutation. And, this is why it is associated with the Egyptian god, Thoft (creator of the matrix).

I've never heard it associated with the last supper, but I would love to check into it.

Love the ring too :D

I agree with Jessica. You should consider an article for the rockhounds club.

My father's side of the family are all in May. I have a piece my grandmother designed through another artist (before I sparked interests in making jewelry) with the combination of her original wedding ring, my grandfather's (after he passed away 7 years ago), united with his ring re-shaped into a heart holding her's in the center with the diamonds still on it....were the two pieces meet, directly below, a small emerald was added, by my choice representing the birth month of May for my grandfather, dad, and grandmother who are all 10 days apart. I have another piece of emerald that was given to me by a classmate that passed away last semester....which I want to turn into something. I only seem to associate the stone with death lol. The stone itself is beautiful, it's the only stone of green I appriciate and find more beautiful then any other green stone.
