Now More Than Ever We Need Cartoons - Issue 1

~abnormaltoonage:iconabnormaltoonage: reports, March 10
In these modern times I often find myself, depressed, or feeling less than satisfied in my surroundings. The world around us is in financial meltdown, there's always bad news in the newspaper, and somehow American Idol is still on television. In summation, times are definitely pretty rough.

We all find comfort and solace in different things, whether it be drinking, reading, hiking, relationships, food, or what have you. But I find the best medicine for me, is a good old fashioned cartoon. Whether I find it on the television, or in the newspaper, or here on DevArt. So, in an effort to promote smiles and my fellow artist, I have compiled the work of some cartoon artists who I think deserve more attention.

I won't lie to you people, I def threw myself in at the bottom, but I figure if my cartoons make a single person smile, the fact that I am shamelessly self promoting is worth the risk. Hehe.

So here goes!

~stablercake
While this artist has only recently begun their gallery here on dev, they've already managed to rack up an incredibly fun and unique selection. From whacky, to morbidly funny, to just plain silly. This gallery will certainly slap them blues off your face or die trying.

~Loopydave
Sometimes, you look at a gallery for the first time, and you're left speechless. There are times where that is a bad thing and times where that is a good thing. Trust me, this time, it's a good thing. Allow LoopyDave's gallery to transport you from the humdrums to the speechless...drums? Er... just enjoy.

~Gingco
One of the most surprising things to me that I have ever come across here on devart is the fact that Gingco
only has just over 1800 page views. Between the wonderful character design in this gallery and the fantastic details and humor, I really was expecting a lot more.

*efdemon
Stumbling upon the excellent gallery of this deviant was a real treat for me recently, I find his style absolutely delightful. The colors pop in just the right way, and the expressions on his characters are picture perfect. His caricature work is always a delight and this gallery will always leave you smiling!

~wibblethefish
Wibblethefish has a gallery that is entirely his own, and extremely fun. Between his fan art, and his original work, there's truly something for everyone here. So prepare to chuckle, and don't bother trying to fight it... we all know you want to.

*deaddays
Sure, a lot of people are familiar with John Rios and his amazing series... but I think it's too funny not to feature. So for his ability to always give me a weekly dose of awesome, I give you DEADDAYS!

~chunkysmurf
I can't think of many people who make me laugh on a more consistant basis. This gallery is full of wit, and laughter. Need proof? Check out the series of injured pokemon, and tell me you didn't wish you'd thought of that first. Haha.

~abnormaltoonage
That's me! I won't sit here and praise my work or compare it to the ridiculously talented artists above, that'd be foolish, I just submit these in hopes that they brighten your day in some small way.

I will be trying to do new issues of this on a monthly basis or perhaps less. I'm not entirely positive yet, and it will really depend on my schedule, but if you have suggestions for cartoonists you think should be in the next issue please send me a note and I will make sure to check out each and every one of them and hopefully this will eventually garnish exposure for a lot of the unsung heroes of the cartooning community.

'Til next time my friends,
Michael

Haha Thanks! I probably would have never seen these portfolio's if you hadn't showcase them. Great funny work, all of them! I believe your right, that during these times of uncertainty it's necessary to have a good laugh where ever you can get it. I definitely hope to see more of these posts again, and see who's stuff I've been missing on this site.

And thanks for helping to get my work seen too. :)

It was my pleasure, thank you for creating the pieces. I think it's important that artists help each other whenever possible, and although I don't carry much pull on this site, any little thing I can do, helps. I'm featuring the article on my blog, and my journal, and wherever else I can think of, and the hope is that those included mention it or show it around here and there, and as I do more issues, I will link back to the previous one, and slowly but surely more and more people will have the opportunity to read this and see the individual galleries.

I hope it works. :-)
