Every day, I roam the Street Photography gallery here on deviantART, and add the photos that define street to my
Street collection. Often, I see a few photographers who always catch my eye, and I enjoy very much. This is a feature to those unknown street photographers that are at the top of their game, and are the definition of modern street photography.
~AsherphotogI recently fell in love with Asher's photography after I suggested one of his pieces for a Daily Deviation. Since then, I've grown to love every photo he submits. From Street, to abstract, he submits it all. His photos are so unique and artistic, and best of all, he shoots film. No, not 35mm...6x6!
=mrtsoHe shoots 135, 120, and digital, and the variety of styles is just as extensive as his variety of mediums. His photography is very unique ... a uniqueness that I love. His work is not only a canon for street photographers, but for any kind of photographer far and wide. His work is so postmodern and beautiful. I would not be surprised if his fame stretches beyond deviantART years from now.
=LekompaktHe's a really unknown artist, but a great one at that. Recently received a Daily Deviation feature for one of his street photographs, his gallery is really something you can't pass up. I often feel film photographers are more "photographers" that digital users are, and Lekompakt proves this.
`rhapsouldizeOk, I know a lot of people may be a little upset that she is in this feature, however, I disagree. She is still "unknown" in the world. Her work is waaaaay too good to be known only on deviantART. Her work is ground breaking, cutting edge, postmodern, and incredible. She deserves to be known as well as photographers on iN-Public, or Magnum. Her blog is
here.
*000moggy000Nothing much to say. I love his work. A photographer with a great eye, and a great sense of culture. I can see him being very famous in the future as well.
*djailledieHe has a great eye for color and composition. He's a very untraditional street photographer. He shoots mostly in color, and focuses on the juxtapositions of life ... the abstract images and ideas that somehow manage to get into our everyday. His eye for the human personality and character is unbeatable.
~BrainsgoBoinkPhotography is about observing. Street photography is about observing moments and how character and personality affect the moment. BrainsgoBoink does a great job of representing this, and does a great job of preserving anonymity in the photographs as well. It's something not needed, but certainly interesting, as the anonymous figure can apply to anyone.
=DAB2084Probably the least popular deviants in this article, David only has about 5,000 pageviews. His photography isn't anything special, but because it is so simple, it's special. He photographs people in their habitat. Doing things. Being themselves. That's it. It's the perfect anthropological outlook on life, and David does it very well.
Now remember, street photography is ever changing. New styles come out every day; some you may love, some you may hate. Don't copy, but take from styles and create your own. Look at hundreds and thousands of street photographs, as well as paintings, drawings, photography portraits, etc to get your creative mind flowing, and your knowledge of composition, color, blending, and moment to a point that you can create on the fly.
There are hundreds of amazing street photographers out there. A lot are on deviantART, and a lot were not mentioned in this feature. I only mentioned some photographers that I see almost every day and add to my favorites. These are the photographers that when I see a photograph in the Street gallery, I say "Oh that's Ferocello's. I know it." They have a defined style that I use to create my own. There are plenty of more popular street photographers on deviantART, such as `
Obsidian-Fox, `
cweeks, *
Nullermanden, ~
tanya-n etc that have their own style as well. Those aren't hard to find. But always look at the new artists as well.
Thank you for reading this feature article and supporting those artists. As a fellow unknown street photographer, I know how amazing it is just to even get a on my photograph. If you want to see more individual photographs that define street photography, check out my collection "Street"
here.
Thanks!
Photographer's Note
I will try to make Unknown Street a bi-yearly article. It is very difficult to find great street photographers here on deviantART, and it takes about 6 months to find a good handful. I'd also like to say that yes, some of the photographs featured in this article were not street, but I believe that photographer needs to be known for his/her street as well as fine art photography. I have an open mind, and even as a photographer, I love paintings and colorful art. You should too. This is an art site after all, not flickr.

Horribly intrusive watermarks are tacky. If you're concerned about people stealing your photos, don't post them on the internet.
Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event. (HCB)
Thanks for featuring me with them!

So I thank you twice: once for featuring me, but also for taking the time of showing us great photographers, and putting that in words!
