What is Stock?
Comments on recently featured Stock reminds us that there are people that do not know what stock is or how it is used. The official definition, which can be found in the gallery description is
"Stock Photography which the provider has granted a license for incorporation into other Deviant artists work." To expand a bit, stock photographs and images can be used in digital works such as photomanips and used as reference in both digital and traditional art.
You are required to adhere to the stock artists rules. Typically, this includes crediting the provider in the description of your art and notifying them that you have utilized their stock. There are exceptions so be sure to read the rules prior to using any stock. If you have questions, contact the artist prior to using the stock to avoid misunderstandings.

Have you ever considered starting a stock account or are new and could use some tips?
Below are 3 of my favorite tutorials prepared by ~
AttempteStock- The-Stock-Account-Guide - this tutorial reviews the basics for getting started. Such as, setting up you account, avatar, rules, etc.
- Preparing-Stock-Images-for-dA - this tutorial offers suggestions on choosing which images to upload. Often it is not necessary to upload every single image from a particular shoot. Though not necessary, making slight adjustments such as rotating and cropping your stock can be beneficial.
- Guide-to-Stock-Part-I - is a good technical tutorial that offers suggestions with specific camera settings among other things.
There are also many other stock tutorials here on deviantART. I have a listing of a few others displayed in my side journal. Another important aspect of managing a stock account is to place your stock in the proper category. The probability of your stock being utilize is greatly diminished if it placed in the wrong category. For example, uploading portrait photographs in miscellaneous (something I see frequently).

Minimum Image Guidelines
To avoid having your images moved - please ensure they follow these guidelines:
- Size must be a MINIMUM of 600x600 pixels (excluding vintage portraits that are relatively small and of low quality)
- No heavy distortion due to blur/noise/grain (this rule is case-by-case depending on the usability of the image in question.)
- No webcams or cell phone images
- No sexually explicit imagery
Your adherence to these standards will enable us to maintain a usable gallery of images. Please contact a Resources and Stock Gallery Moderator if you have any questions about your stock.
No one likes to have their work moved. If you find that something of yours is moved and you want to discuss the matter, just reply to the note you received. And, if you report stock do keep in mind that we have people at various levels in our community. The FAQ states heavy distortion due to blur, noise, grain. An image that is slightly out of focus may still be usable stock.
