[PhotoJournalism] Community Choice #2

Community Choice: Photojournalism

edition #2

The Story

Community Choice started out as a simple series of articles by `misskittyoooo where deviants could choose one deviant’s gallery and pick three deviations from it to feature. In February of 2008 I, ^Helewidis gave a twist to that idea and asked the Senior community to choose one deviation from a gallery (back then it was for Artistic Nudes, today it is for photojournalism) and add a write-up explaining why they loved the piece so much and why we should see the it.

The project soon extend to non-seniors and took the form of Community Choice’s News Articles, embraced by several Gallery Moderators and by everyone in deviantART.

The goal of this project is simple: To provide a fun and simple way of featuring good work from deviantART’s galleries in a collaborative spirit between Gallery Moderators and the community! As the project has grown you can choose to take part on this with more galleries and Gallery Moderators!

The purpose is to expose deviant’s artworks without the “just post thumbs” attitude - we feel this way the Featured works get the attention and respect they deserve!

In home for the project: journal-hub in =resurgere you can read more about this project!

And that’s why the CR (Community Relations) Team exists: to bring Unity into the Community while sharing ART! This is your chance to have Gallery Moderators support the sharing of your chosen artwork and thoughts about it.

Your Community, Your Choices!

:icontoiabates:

`toiabates’s choice:

onum arkam saglm solum by ~enderefe is so full of life, happiness and colours. Yes, colours. I know it's all black and white, but I see colours whenever I look at it, those of childhood dreams and well spent playful afternoons.

I love the overall feeling of Taram de poveste by ~dianora. It's out of focus and the flying snow almost looks like a scratched neg scan. An old photo from winters past: soft, melancholic, beautiful.

stronghold by ~hersley it's so fun and happy. I really like the contrast between the menacing sea and quite dramatic background and the little kid with that big grin. Makes me smile every time i see it.

Lost In Iceland by *Steiner62 My first thought was "so that's how the land of björk and sigur rós looks like! it explains a lot!" But musical preferences and references apart, there's something captivating about this photograph. I find it quite mysterious. Enchanting as well.

The Running Kids by =kaipu. Night is slowly falling, two kids play outside, running and laughing. A man looks up, so does his dog. Great way to start what could be a wonderful story.

:iconphydeau:

=phydeau’s choice:

The eye, which is no longer there, took 12 minutes to make a complete revolution. Wonderful long-exposure shot of both the eye and the towers (and their reflections).

An excellent portrait, with the red and white clothes against the blue-green wall of the mosque. The small focal length creating a great sense of depth. A spontaneous moment just before school started in an area so remote that it took the photographer 3 days of traveling to get there.

A fortunate perspective. The colorful balloons against the clear blue sky would be pretty by itself, but the moon in line with them is truly fascinating.

Nice perspective. I like the wide-angle look. Great timing.

This one's probably open to a lot of interpretation. I just think it's a great composition illustrating uniformity.

The "Breasts Not Bombs" campaign might have been kind of a silly way to protest, but it did get people's attention and got people talking. So maybe it's not silly at all. Yay for the 1st amendment!

:iconcynferdd:

=cynferdd’s choice:

I really loved it. The author said: "Taken in 1988 in eastern Berlin./ the showcase was - empty. / the only Wurst you could see there was the painted one. / communist reality, not only in the GDR" (a wurst is a sausage). Really ironical, and in the same time, a bit hard.

I love the composition, the movement and the way this photography reveals the moves of this dance. It has some kind of unreality within… Hope you'll like it.=)

:iconpendlestock:

`pendlestock’s choice:

I think this is a fabulous shot - not only does it literally depict the setting of backstage at a show, it has that glamorous feel with the high contrast and rich colours. I adore it!

Surfing is something that is documented quite often by photojournalists - but not in Cornwall in January. There’s no blue sky - that clear azure sea is topped by the typical English grey - and the surfer is failing in dramatic fashion.
Technically it's crisp, clear, the colours are beautiful and the off centre composition really works! :aww:

:iconjacquijax:

=JacquiJax’s choice:

Just beautiful! Love is everywhere, doesn’t matter how we live, if we have money or need to pray to get food one day, love is there!

A picturesque and colourful image that show us that woman also make a hard work over the world! It doesn’t matter the culture or social level we are hard workers to sustain our family :)

I don’t like b/w photo often.. but this one is amazing!! i cant imagine it at colors! b/w gives it a great feeling and makes it more interesting!
Is such a great composition  :D really mystic!

This photo is one of the best photos I had ever seen!!
The movement, the face expression of the woman (so amazed by the beauty of nature), all the things that are happening there and all the colours!! LOVE IT!

My top 4:

After reading and enjoying all of your choices I made my own: I chose 4 pictures to feature in my shoutboard until the next edition of Community Choice.

by *Steiner62 - choice of `toiabates

by *digitalgrace - choice of =phydeau

by =neolestat - choice of `pendlestock

by *linedanser - choice of =JacquiJax

To be part of the next edition please read this journal: [link] and follow the instructions! :thanks:

About Photojournalism (PJ) Editions

What to do:

Choose 5 to 10 photos from the photojournalism gallery and write a paragraph (minimum: 1; maximum: 5) about each of them letting the community know why you chose it and think it should have more audience. The photo cannot have a DD, but it does not matter if the deviant already had one or not in another photo.

Send a note with this and write "community choice" in the subject. Everyone can send a note. Frequency of posting will depend on number of notes received.

Your community, your choice:

I'll make an article when I have a minimum of 5 deviants with their choices. A maximum (in case we have many notes coming) of 10.
There will be no difference in the articles submissions between seniors or non-seniors this time - for the sake of periodicity.

My choice:

In the end I will make a choice too, for a special feature in my shoutboard. With each article I post with your choices I'll chose a top 4 to feature in my shoutboard, along with the names of the artists and of the deviants who chose them until the next article – and with a link to the article, to this journal and to the community-choice hub-journal.

Support!

Display these stamps and help spread the word about the project, the more people learn about it and contribute their features the more general awesomeness will be featured for everyone to enjoy.
