Animals in Danger: Featuring Hoofed Animals

=Flame-of-the-Phoenix:iconFlame-of-the-Phoenix: reports, March 21
:sheepish: [NOTE] It seems for every known artist on Deviantart, there are hundreds that are overlooked, many that are exceptionally talented. Some of them will be featured below; please, if you have the time check out their galleries and support them! :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:pointr: Hundreds of animals today are facing extinction: their homes are destroyed, they are slaughtered for their body parts or fur, and their food sources are lessening.

:pointr: One way to help these animals is by letting people know how bad the situation is and try to encourage people to support various groups trying to help out endangered animals. I decided to write a series of articles featuring some wonderful artists and their photographs or drawings of certain animals, some basic information on the condition of said animal in the wild, as well as some groups/clubs in case you want to get involved. Enjoy!

//Status levels (from worst to best)://
Extinct in wild, Critical risk, Endangered, Vulnerable, Lower Risk, Stable

Featured: Hoofed Animals (Ungulates) in Danger

*This, of course, is not the complete list of hoofed endangered animals.*

------------------------------------------------------

Markhor

Fast facts: - in the past, their common herd size was over 100 individuals; now it is between 9-35
- climbs trees in search of nutritious leaves
- is a part of the goat family

Status: :bulletorange: Endangered :bulletorange:

------------------------------------------------------

Okapi

Fast facts: - related to giraffes
- leopards are their main natural predator
- females are slightly taller than the males

Status: :bulletgreen: Lower Risk :bulletgreen:

------------------------------------------------------

Peninsular Pronghorn

Fast facts: - is native to North America and has no close relative on any continent
- a calf can walk only one hour after birth
- can see movement as far as 3 miles (5 kilometers) away
- though it may look like an antelope, it is in a completely different family

Status: :bulletred: Critical Risk :bulletred:

------------------------------------------------------

Przewalski's Horse (also known as the Asian Wild Horse)

Fast facts: - have never been tamed for riding, thus making them the last truly wild horse
- the Mongolian name for these horses is "takhi," which means "spirit"
- have 2 more chromosomes than a domestic horse

Status: :bulletblack: Extinct in the Wild :bulletblack:

------------------------------------------------------

Vicuña

Fast facts: - smallest member of the camel family
- males can fight off rivals by spitting
- when in danger, they use a high whistle to get the herd’s attention

Status: :bulletgreen: Lower Risk :bulletgreen:

------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for featuring my picture!!

Actually the Przewalski's Horse is no longer extinct in the wild. They captured the remaining population of 14 and reintroduced 250 in the wild in 1992 and keep reintroducing more as time has gone on. Now there is at least 1,500 roaming free.
