How to Commission an Artist

*ArynChris:iconArynChris: reports, November 16
A comprehensive guide to commissioning, based on my personal experiences and observations. This guide does not address hosting contests, nor does it specifically address the unique challenges of commissioning through specific websites, though some typical scenarios are mentioned in passing. Topics include choosing the artist, why it's important to make sure you can afford it, how to contact the artist, payment, what WIPs are and why you might want to see them, and legal rights of both parties. Legal rights are discussed at the beginner level and are NOT in depth here.

Animals in Danger: Featuring Pandas

=Flame-of-the-Phoenix:iconFlame-of-the-Phoenix: reports, March 28
:teddy: [NOTE] It seems for every known artist on Deviantart, there are hundreds that are overlooked, many that are exceptionally talented. Some of them will be featured below; please, if you have the time check out their galleries and support them! :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:pointr: Hundreds of animals today are facing extinction: their homes are destroyed, they are slaughtered for their body parts or fur, and their food sources are lessening.

:pointr: One way to help these animals is by letting people know how bad the situation is and try to encourage people to support various groups trying to help out endangered animals. I decided to write a series of articles featuring some wonderful artists and their photographs or drawings of certain animals, some basic information on the condition of said animal in the wild, as well as some groups/clubs in case you want to get involved. Enjoy!

//Status levels (from worst to best)://
Extinct in wild, Critical risk, Endangered, Vulnerable, Lower Risk, Stable

:target: Featured: Pandas

*There are only two types of animals with panda in the name, so I decided to feature them together. Scientists are not completely sure that they are related and thus are a part of separate scientific families. Also, since this article does not include too many animals, I decided to feature more artists.*

------------------------------------------------------

Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

:postit: Fast facts: - wild pandas eat 99% bamboo, but can also eat other grasses and occasional small rodents or musk deer fawns

- have a pseudo thumb to grip

- is part of the order Canivora (carnivores) and its digestive system is more like that of a meat-eater, even though it mostly eats plants

- can make a number of noises, including bleats, barks, huffs, croaks and honks

Status: :bulletorange: Endangered :bulletorange:
Due to: Shortage of bamboo, low reproductive rate, destruction of habitat, hunting

------------------------------------------------------

Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)
Alternate Names: Fire fox, Lesser Panda

:postit: Fast facts: - share part of their range with the giant pandas, but are a part of their own scientific family: Ailuridae

- have much in common with giant pandas: they have a pseudo thumb, eat primarily bamboo, and are a part of the order Carnivora

- wrap their long tails around them during cold periods

- their tail can add up to around 20 inches (50 cm) to their length

- need to eat 20%-30% of their weight daily in bamboo shoots and leaves for energy

Status: :bulletorange: Endangered :bulletorange:
Due to: Habitat loss (deforestation)

I am a very big fan of your articles! They are all wonderfully laid out and I like the way you include the works from many unknown deviants.
What I also like is the way you give some interesting facts about the animals and show their risk status. =)
Amazing panda article ^^.
