Is there anything else that the staff should know? When submitting a misplaced deviation report for the Doll Gallery, there's a few things that can really make a difference for the Help Desk people. They don't know the ways of dolling and many of them don't know the rules for our categorizing structure.
Common Miscats
Cell Shading

Such styles that are cell shaded like an anime or cartoon-like where it uses a base color, a shadow color and
maybe a highlight color over a large area without such things as dithering, are to be placed in the Miscellaneous category, not Pixel. They do not utilize pixel shading techniques. They are not placed pixel by pixel.
-
"Cell shaded deviations need to be in Misc. They do not utilize pixel shading techniques."
Mixed Mediums

Anything that is pixellated and tooled, such as pixelled dolls with a gradient/photograph/screenshot/wallpaper/etc background, or dolls that are both pixel/tooled need to be in the Miscellaneous category. This also includes having layers with opacity levels that are semi transparent and gradients.
-
"Uses both pixelling and tooling techniques, must be in Misc." -
"Uses a gradient background, must be in Misc." -
"Uses a background from somewhere else that is not pixellated or created by them, must be in Misc." -
"Utilizes gradients/paintbrush/pixelling so it is a mixed medium and must be in Misc." -
"Use of opacity layers along with pixelling, must be in Misc."
Text

Text that is computer generated with anti-aliasing and not hand pixelled combined with a pixelated doll make it a Miscellaneous deviation. This includes adding the name of a character, a note to someone, or a Happy Holiday text. Bases that use the text as a way for naming a base, displaying the rules and crediting terms are an exception.
-
"Use of text along with dolling which makes it a Misc deviation."
Avatar Icons

Icon avatars that use a base are still avatars. That's what they're supposed to be, not a doll. There is a category for those under Customization > Icons > Avatars > Whichever of the three that fits it. Base crediting is still advised in the artist commentary.
-
"This is an avatar."
Dollmaker Dolls

Dollmaker dolls do NOT belong on deviantART. This includes anything derived from them such as comics and the like since the original art is still a part of the piece. They need to be placed in Scraps.
FAQ #502: Can I submit 'Dolls', 'Characters' or other things which I made on certain websites in games or with 'generators'? -
"This was created by a dollmaker from SITE/DEVIANT NAME. (link)"
Character Maker "Dolls"

Those furry character or sonic character makers also do not belong on deviantART. This includes anything derived from them such as comics and the like since the original art is still a part of the piece. They need to be placed in Scraps.

"This was created by a character maker from SITE/DEVIANT NAME. (link)"
Site Avatars

Site avatars such as those from Gaia Online also do not belong on deviantART. The art was not created by the person so it is not theirs. They need to be placed in Scraps.

WIPs

Works in Progress deviations are as what they state, in progress and should be in Scraps until they are finished. Reporting probably won't do much good if they finish it soon but a simple note explaining that may help in the future.
How to Note Those Who DON'T KnowTo be honest, many of those who do mis-categorize deviations don't even know that they're doing it and think that what they've found was the best solution. Taking that in consideration, here's a few ways to note the person nicely if you feel that noting would help them.

Hello, you're mis-categorizing one/a few of your deviations. Since your SITENAME dolls were made from a SITENAME dollmaker (Which in turn came from the SITENAME site itself) and not by you, then they need to be put in Scraps. That includes anything that was created by the SITENAME avatar maker and then edited.
