Easter is a time for going to church, decorating eggs, getting baskets of candy, and spending time with family. Unfortunately, it is also a time when people buy pet rabbits on an impulse. After the novelty of cute bunny wears off, owners find that they no longer want their pet or find that it is too much work to take care of. These rabbits are often dumped at shelters where they are usually euthanized, or are set loose in the wild where they cannot survive. And the rabbits that are kept are often abused and neglected.
If you are thinking about getting a pet bunny this Easter, think long and hard about it. Make sure you want this bunny for the rest of it's life... not just this Easter. Do extensive research on pet rabbits and proper rabbit care to make sure you know what you're getting into and are capable of providing your rabbit with everything it needs. Remember, rabbits are not pets that can be kept in cages most of the time. They need room to roam around. A cage should only be used to keep your rabbit safe while you cannot supervise.
Some facts about domestic rabbits from Make Mine Chocolate

Rabbits are NOT low-maintenance pets! They require as much work as a dog or cat.

Rabbits can live 8 to 10 years, sometimes longer.

The necessary spay or neuter can cost $100 or more, and rabbits require routine veterinary care.

Rabbits are not cuddly - they can become frightened when held!

Pet rabbits cannot be set "free" - it's a death sentence.
"This Easter, why not make it a chocolate bunny or a cuddly stuffed toy instead? Let's make it a Happy Easter for bunnies, too."

Remember, rabbits are living creatures. They are not toys. They do not make good Easter gifts for children. Please help spread the word that rabbits are not disposable pets.

yay for bunnies!

And thanks for the feature. ^_^
This time of year is the time I always hear stories of people finding domesticated rabbits hopping around in streets and yards, because the ignorant and immature people who bought them for their young children decided they were too much work.
It's ridiculous. It's horrible. They have a very slim chance of surviving when abandoned.
I know many kind people, who never planned on having a companion rabbit, who ended up having one or two or three, because they found them loose and abandoned in the streets. But those kind people are very few, and the poor bunnies will probably be killed within a few days of being released.
I STRESS that you do NOT bring a rabbit into your home until you do TONS of research about them. It's not fair to the rabbits, it's not fair to the shelters, it's not fair to the kids.

The moon shone so bright that night I saw him standing there, green eyes looking back into mine. His glance so perfect, so serene. I found myself staring into a dream.
