News and updates
Just a quick update to let you all know that the project is still on-going and there are still lots of tutorials which haven't been translated yet. You can find the whole list
here.
Here's another translation-based project you might be interested in. If you enjoy translating or you've found something on dA that you would like to have translated, visit =
dATranslators, the deviantART Translators Community. They can provide translations for comments, journals, forum content, news, dA policy...just about anything on the site. And they're looking for more translators to join them.
BIG thanks to all the wonderful people who have gotten involved with Global Tutorials so far, offering their tutorials for translation, translating tutorials, pimping in the project in their journals and being generally supportive and wonderful.
Thanks also to the following clubs which are kindly helping to promote the project among their members:
StampsYou can also use one of the stamps in your journal, your club's journal, your shoutboard, your stamp collection, wherever you can put a stamp. I made the (crap) on on the left and *
slinkydink made the yummy one on the right. If you want to make a yummy stamp, please do!
Further information and a list of tutorials which still need to be translated can be found in my journal
HERE

What's this all about?

JacquiJax sent me a message asking if she could translate one of my tutorials into Spanish. I thought it was a brilliant idea and it got me thinking. Although dA is predominantly an English-speaking site, there are people here from all over the world, who speak a multitude of different languages. Wouldn't it be great if tutorials could be written in a number of languages so that everyone could make use of them?
There are lots of really good tutorials out there in dA-land already, as well as informative and educational news articles and journal entries. Most of them are in English, so people who are fluent in English AND another language volunteer to translate them. If each of the tutorials (original and translated) have links to the other language versions in the descriptions (or journals), people can easily find a version of the tutorial that they could read and understand.
Anyone who is
fluent in English and at least one other language is welcome to work on translating, especially if you can use Photoshop or another digital editing program to paste translated text over original text in image-based tutorials. I'd also like people who are about to start working on their first translation to pick one that hasn't been translated yet.
Thanks to ^Helewidis for suggesting that I take this further and make a project out of it and to =JacquiJax for being the inspiration behind it all!
What to get involved?
To offer a tutorial for translation...If you have written a tutorial (or an educational journal entry or news article) that you would like to offer for translation, please send me a NOTE with a link to your work stating that I have permission to list it here and that you also give your permission for someone else to translate it into a different language and submit it to dA as a tutorial, news article or journal.
If you've written a tutorial in another language (apart from English) that you'd like to offer for translation, please note me with a link to your tutorial along with a short description of what it's about (sorry, but this bit MUST be in English so I can understand it!) and tell me what language it's been written in.
To translate a tutorial...Choose the tutorial you are going to translate and note me to tell me which one it is. I'll add a 'translation in progress' bit to that tutorial's listing in the journal with your name. Once it's finished, send me a note with a link to the original tutorial and a link to your translated version. Don't forget to tell me what language you've translated it into because I might not recognise it otherwise!
And then...Once I've received a link to a translated tutorial, I'll list the original AND the translation below (with credits to both writers). I'll also note the writer of the original to let them know that their work has been translated.
Don't forget to credit! Please put a link to the translated versions in the description of your original deviation. Also, if you're translating a tutorial, don't forget to put a link to the original in your description, along with a credit for the original writer. Thanks!
Tutorials can be translated into as many languages as you want. So just because you see that someone has translated one into French, it doesn't mean that you can't translate it into German. In fact, the more languages things are translated into, the better.
If you've already translated something or have written it in more than one language send me a note with the relevant links and I'll include it in the list.
For image-based tutorials you can just translate the text and post it with a link to the original, or you can paste your translated text over the English text on the image. It's up to you.
PLEASE DON'T USE ONLINE TRANSLATORS!The translated tutorials should be gramatically correct and often online translators don't do this properly. Tutorials must be translated by a PERSON who is fluent in the language they're working in!
