With an astounding gallery to show for and already 5 Daily Deviations ~hersley is no stranger for the dAs photojournalism community. It was with a humble attitude and an almost poetic flow of speech that this deviant from the Philippines shared his thoughts regarding Photojournalism practices and his own experience.
What makes you YOU?
To begin with, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Hersley-Ven Dumapit Casero. I live in Western Bagacay in the city of Dumaguete. Dumaguete city is the capital of Negros Oriental, Philippines. I'm the eldest son of Ben and Nizza and I have three siblings that look up to me and respect me.
As I grow up, Ive been in so many difficulties and struggles that made me realize what the real meaning of life is. I'm a visual artist started on a young age. My skills and talents in arts gave me a scholarship in college. I worked in Foundation University Creative Department right after I graduated in Foundation University in Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Marketing. Isn't it ironic?
Since then I always love and appreciate seeing photographs on the wall. I was really interested and very willing to learn everything about photography because for me it's another way of expressing one's art.

When did photojournalism begin to be part of your life and how?
Year 2004, I held my first digital camera. It was issued by Foundation University. Due to the enthusiasm that I felt, I always bring it with me and take pictures of everything that interests me.
Later on, I realized that my interests lie with human portraits and how they interact on their environment. It is photojournalism that I want to venture more than any other photography genre. For me, "it is catching moment beyond normal with spontaneity and decisiveness."
When I met Luis Sinco who happened to be the son of the President of FU and one of the renowned photographers of Los Angeles Times, I was more inspired to pursue photojournalism.
Then one day, I received an e-mail asking for my permission if they could print one of my photos they saw in DA. The mail was from Jaipur Infomedia City Guide. That was the first time my photograph was noticed by a magazine from out of the country:

I also have some photos published in national newspapers. I am also a regular photo contributor in Dumaguete City's local newspaper, the Metropost.
I think the only advice I could give for those people who wants their works to be published is, "Keep shooting and share your photographs."
What is your favourite photojournalism piece of your own?
I have lots of favorite photos and this is one of my favorite photojournalism shot:

Have you ever felt afraid or had any issues while pursuing photojournalism?
There are times I'm having a second thoughts is I'll push the button or not but fright is never the reason I've encountered ever since I started my photography. The only issue I've experienced was when this image
[link] was noticed here in DA and banned for awhile because somebody reported me to the admins. I was asked to submit a release form signed by the parents of the boy in the photo.
Did the parents signed it? What did they thought about it? And how is the law regarding children photography in your country?
Yes, the parents signed the release and were happy to know that a picture of their son was uploaded in DA because I explained to them what DA is all about. They were flattered and even thankful to me.
In our country taking pictures of children is allowable as long you don't use it for any illegal or shameful matters especially concerning the children's rights. So far in my experience with the people here, they are not like people in other countries. They don't get mad when you take a picture of them, more especially when you get permission from them. In fact, people here love to be photographed.

Who inspires you?
Luis Sinco is my admiration for every shot I took and every achievement I'm rewarded.
[link]What about dA?
When I found out about DA I was challenged. It was because of DA also that I grew up with my photography. I've seen works of so many talents. I'll tell the world that DA is an amazing avenue for those people who want to learn and share. I always convince my friends to visit or join DA community. In fact, in my info/calling card, DA is on the top as my reference portfolio.
Could you share some tips with the community?
The 10 things that I always put in mind when I'm taking pictures are:
1. Always prepared
2. Be punctual
3. Presence of mind
4. Don't limit yourself
5. Blend with the crowd. If possible, don't make yourself noticeable.
6. Be patient
7. Be creative/artistic
8. Love what you are doing
9. Shoot beyond normal
10. Always learn from your mistakes
Thank you so much.

Hersley-Ven D. Casero
Thank you very much for everything, Hersley!
