Interview with =monislawa

Today, I had the honour to make an interview with one of the most popular artists on deviantART. She's unique in her style, she's special, she's a great storyteller.

What’s your name?
My name is Monika Stojak.



What does your dA nickname mean?
My dA nickname is a longer form of my name, but it doesn't exist in any language, so it's a pseudonym.



Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm almost 18, live in Poland. My passion is photography and my hobby is music (many many kinds of it; right now I'm adoring Kid Cudi and Santogold).



Were you an artist when you were a child?
Hmm, just as all kids, I used to draw a lot, but that's all. I've never been an artist and will never be.

Do you study outside of dA?
I'm learning all the stuff by myself.



How did you discover DeviantART?
I don't remember exactly how it was, but I guess I found dA somewhere in the Net.

Where do you take inspiration for your works?
Songs inspire me a lot, also fashion magazines and daily life.



Are there some meanings in your works?
I always try to tell a story in my works, but not in the fashion shoots, because there I'm focused on the clothes.




DeviantART is full of artists. Do you have your favourite one?
I have many favourite artists, so it's hard to choose.

Where do you take your photos?
The places are usually somewhere near or in my city. They are connected with my mates or friends, they live in those places or they know the owners.



Do you usually have a message to send through your work?
It happens quite a lot that the photos, especially self-portraits, are associated with my mood, feelings. The message is involved in the titles and sometimes in the descriptions. But I prefer when people try to guess the meaning of certain photo by themselves.



What are your other hobbies?
As I said before, music, friends, parties, travelling.

If you could, you would...
... go to the USA, right now it's my first dream to come true.

What is your favourite piece, that you ever made?
It's really hard to choose, but I guess it would be this one:



It has a certain mood, a feeling of transience. It's also quite sentimental, because it was taken during my first meeting with the model ~yello-w.
